It's ! It's time to celebrate our huge tree planting last weekend!

🎉

We had 70 incredible volunteers come out to Huntsville State Park for our community tree-planting! With our community's help, we planted 70 native trees alongside partners. By providing opportunities for hands-on conservation, we can connect more Texans to nature and build a sustainable future for the places we call home!

Last Friday was a historic day for Texas outdoors! 🌲🏕️

We had the incredible honor of attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Palo Pinto Mountains State Park—the very first new state park in Texas in 18 years! This adds over 4,800 beautiful acres of land for hiking, biking, fishing, and exploring to our state park system.

It was a monumental event attended by Governor Greg Abbott, Secretary of State Jane Nelson, TPWD Executive Director David Yoskowitz, Texas State Parks Director Rodney Franklin, and many other state leaders.

But here is the most important part: the Get Outside Alliance was invited to celebrate alongside these leaders because of YOU. The tireless, hard work of our GOA volunteers is getting noticed at the highest levels. This honor belongs to every single one of you who has picked up a tool, cleared a trail, or dedicated your time to conservation. Thank you for putting GOA on the map and making a real difference in Texas! 💚

We had an absolute blast at the Texans for State Parks Annual Conference on March 28th! 🏕️💚

There is nothing quite like getting together with fellow Friend Groups, dedicated State Park staff, and our amazing community partners. Honestly, the best part of the day was just catching up with friends and colleagues who work so tirelessly for our public lands and having a great time together!

We also loved hearing State Parks Director Rodney Franklin's exciting updates on new park acquisitions and development, and we were thrilled to cheer on the outstanding state park staff and volunteers honored at the closing award ceremony. The future of Texas State Parks is incredibly bright, and we are so lucky to be part of this community! ✨

Something BIG is on the horizon! 💯✨

We are officially closing in on a massive milestone: the 100th Get Outside Alliance project. We’ve been hard at work behind the scenes to make sure this one is extra special, but we aren’t quite ready to spill the beans just yet.

What do you think Project #100 is going to be? A new trail? A massive restoration? A celebratory event? Drop your best guesses in the comments below! 👇

Flipping through our March scrapbook, and we are absolutely blown away by what this community accomplished! 📸💚 Huge shoutout to the incredible Get Outside Alliance volunteers who rolled up their sleeves and got to work last month:

🌲 Huntsville State Park (March 15): 14 volunteers tackled the Dogwood Trail, clearing nearly 2 miles of invasive Chinese privet and sweetgum saplings so native spring plants can thrive. That massive, tricky patch near the entrance was no match for our teamwork!
🐊 Brazos Bend State Park (March 21): Another successful day in the books with our crew completing crucial area-clearing projects to keep the park pristine.
🌊 Galveston Island State Park (March 29): 9 volunteers put in 36 total hours to restore, renovate, and expand the park’s nursery! By deep-cleaning greenhouses and planter boxes, we’re setting up thousands of future plants for success and actively helping restore our coastal prairies.

Thank you to everyone who came out and made these events so successful. Want to be in our next scrapbook? Join us for an upcoming project! 👇

Let’s talk about "The Alliance" in Get Outside Alliance. 🤝

Our mission is to protect the land, but we also want to sustain the people who do the work. We’re considering launching a monthly Volunteer Meet-up—a dedicated "Day Outdoors" at different state parks around the Houston area.

The goal? Pure community. No trail maintenance, no greenhouse work—just hiking, maybe some kayaking, and definitely a lot of good conversation.

Help us build this:

Interest: Is this something you’d clear your Saturday for?

Activities: What are we doing? Hiking? Geocaching? Birding?

Logistics: Since it's a social event, park entry isn't free. Would you be okay covering your own entry fee to keep the event casual, or should we look into a hosted registration?

Let us know your thoughts in the comments! We want to build this with you. 🌲✨
