Ornithology Group, Houston Our mission is to promote the study and appreciation of wild birds and encourage their conservation.

We meet monthly on the first Monday, except for June and July. Each meeting includes a 30-minute Learning Corner program at 6:30, and the main program following a short society update at 7:00 pm.

Join Engagement & Retail Coordinator Grace Donahue for a virtual talk on music and bird song. We'll discuss how bird song has historically influenced music, looking at songs that mimic or highlight the use of bird song, and how the humanities continue to explore the this relationship in ethnomusicology and ecomusicology.

TODAY: Birds of the World Discovery seminar

Plight of the Caribbean Endemics: Case of the Grenada Dove

Date: 22 January 2026 (this week!)
Time: 12:00 Eastern Time
Length: 1.5 hours

Join us for a virtual presentation with Ryan Chenery, tour leader and author of the Birds of the Lesser Antilles, a HELM Field Guide. Ryan will discuss the special challenges faced by single-island endemic bird species. Of special note will be the Grenada Dove, one of Grenada’s two endemic birds, which is found in extremely low numbers in coastal dry thorn forests. Species such as Imperial Parrot, Whistling Warbler, St. Lucia Oriole, the newly described St. Lucia Thrasher, Martinique Thrasher, and perhaps Barbuda Warbler may make an appearance!

YES! The webinar will be recorded and placed under the BOW webinars section. Video will also appear on the BOW YouTube playlist
within a week after the event.

THIS FIELD TRIP CANCELLED.
We’ll try to run it in the early spring.

You are invited to join the Ornithology Group Fall field trip to various spots in Liberty County, Texas. John Berner has put together a diverse itinerary, for Sunday, November 16.
RSVP necessary, as the date is potentially subject to change, depending on rice harvest.

We will meet in the Trinity River NWR, at the Champion Lake boat ramp, Co Rd 417 in Dayton. If you are not already an OG/ONC member, you will need to join ($20 for 2026) to participate.
