Happy Holidays!

12/23/2025

The holidays can be joyful—but they can also be triggering for people in recovery. Extra stress, social pressure, and alcohol-centered events make this season harder than many realize.

Planning ahead, setting boundaries, and choosing safe rides can save lives—including your own.

Support recovery. Choose care. 💛

The holiday season is a time for joy, friends, family — and making great memories. But celebrations can also include alcohol, and without a plan, one decision could change lives forever. 🚫🍷🚗

This year, PLAN A Good Time encourages you to think ahead and enjoy the season safely. ❄️🎉

🧠 Here’s how you can PLAN:
🚕 Designate a driver or schedule a ride ahead of time (Uber, Lyft, Metro).
🥤 Choose alcohol-free options at bars or social events.
💧 Take it slow & hydrate — there’s no rush, and your body will thank you.
📊 Know your limits — track what you drink and stay aware.

💬 Whether you’re going out or hosting, make safety part of the plan before the first drink. Celebrations shouldn’t end with regret — they should end with everyone getting home safely. ❤️

It’s a surprising statistic: Roughly 90% of the Houston Recovery Center’s budget comes from public sources.

While we are grateful for this support, these public funds are almost always "restricted"—meaning they are tied to specific programs and cannot be used for urgent, unexpected needs or essential operational costs.

This creates a vulnerability. When there is a gap between grants, or a sudden community crisis, our hands are tied.

We are building a Flexible Reserve Fund to fix this. Unrestricted donations give us the agility to:

Bridge funding gaps so we don't lose our highly trained staff.

Respond immediately to new emergencies without waiting for grant approval.

The Ask: Help us close the gap. Your donation today provides the flexibility public funds cannot.

Without proper identification, people experiencing homelessness face locked doors at shelters and treatment facilities. Many have lost their birth certificates, Social Security cards, and driver's licenses while living on the streets, creating an impossible barrier to the services they desperately need. HRC breaks this cycle by helping clients secure both emergency temporary IDs for immediate needs and permanent state identification cards that open doors to housing, healthcare, and recovery programs.
