Hi MG Family,
We had a very informative meeting that was presented by Ken Bush from Argenx about ACCESS TO INSURANCE. I have included the slides that Ken included in his presentation for you to review.
The biggest tool you have in navigating your care is knowledge.
Remember that becoming your own advocate is caring about yourself.
If you are not sure about what treatments are covered by your insurance company start by calling call them directly. Speak to the person who is working on your case. Find out what they need from your provider and if there is anything you can provide that will help.
You can also speak to the business office at your treating physician's office and ask them the same.
Either way, get involved and stay on track. Keep a record of the information you are receiving in case you need to follow up at a later date.
If you are thinking about getting a second opinion, check with your insurance company to see which providers are covered under your plan.
Don't forget to call Medicare directly if you need assistance in determining a better plan that fits your needs when it is time to enroll. Find out if a social security counselor is available to guide you.
Talk to fellow Myasthenics and find which insurance company they have.
Remember to contact assistance programs through your insurance company, doctor's facilities and other non-profit organizations. Many such resources are closer than you think and will ease your mind about the financial aspect or your healthcare.
If you need names or phone numbers from this presentation please email me, or you may contact Ken at [email protected].
Stay tuned for some exciting details to our August meeting!
Take care of yourself.
Kind regards,
Meena Outlaw
