14/15.
It’s still not 15/15.
Out of 15 dogs in my last 2 Barc visits 14/15 managed to get out safely, but the 14 don’t make up for the 1 lost.
I know it’s part of the gig that I chose to spend my free time doing, and volunteers lose dogs all the time. I know all of us are tough and built different but when I meet a dog and spend time with them I feel the responsibility of making sure they get out alive AND have an amazing life.
I know that’s not feasible, but it’s hard not to expect it from myself. I know it’s not my problem to solve at all, but I still feel responsible. I want them all to sleep in beds at night, get enrichment, take Home Depot trips, get their paws sniffed and bellies rubbed.
It’s such an emotionally taxing hobby but it truly is so fulfilling and brings me so much joy spending time with these babies.
I got laid off recently and poured my all into Barc and doing dog stuff and now it’s time I take a little break and pour into myself, and spend time pouring into my personal dogs.
Thank you to every single person who shares, donates, gives words of encouragement I couldn’t do it without you. But the messages of dogs that need help or tied up or found helpless are so emotionally taxing and I literally can’t help them all.
If you need me I’ll be offline recharging for a bit ❤️🩹 love you all
