The Harris County Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 39 is disappointed that the Harris County Commissioner's Court has decided to turn its back on public safety for the citizens of Harris County. Your decision to spend an illogical amount of tax payer money on a building that is in complete disrepair, shows your lack of concern for public safety. One Hundred and five million dollars could be better used for all Harris County employees for pay raises, equipment or education that could help retain employees and recruit new employees easier.
The Texas Senate proposed a bill on March 29, for the taxpayers of Harris County to vote on the repurposing plan. In November of 2013 Harris County voters spoke out and rejected the proposed bond, to stop the spending of taxpayer dollars on the Astrodome. The Executive Board and members of the Harris County Fraternal Order of Police No. 39, strongly object to the decisions made today by our County Commissioners.

The following is a copy of the press release being sent out to all major news media in regards to the lawsuit that was filled on retired members behalf by Richard Cobb. Copies of the lawsuit information will be placed on the lodge website www.hcfop39.org for our members to read. We will be updating members on the lawsuit as information is given to our office.

Press Release: The Harris County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #39 has filed a lawsuit alleging a contract violation on behalf of several retired Fraternal Order of Police members. The lawsuit is alleging that Harris County has violated an agreement between the county and retirees by charging retirees under the age of 65 for their insurance.

The Fraternal Order of Police believes that in Texas our word is our bond and we are just asking that Harris County provide for the retirees what they have been promised by the county upon retirement.
