Meet our 2026 Austin Walk Chair, Kim Webel! đź’™

Kim is the team captain of the Masonators and walks with her family in honor of her daughter, Maci, who graduated from high school this May.

"Our family walks for Breakthrough T1D for moments like these. We celebrate and recognize the incredible support we've received from family and friends over the years. Their love, encouragement, and generosity mean more than words can express. Every step we take is filled with hope, gratitude, and the belief that together we can create a future without type 1 diabetes.

We also walk because every donation helps fund research that brings us closer to cures. We've seen firsthand the hope that research provides, and we're grateful for the progress that's been made and excited for what lies ahead. We can't wait to walk again this year and celebrate the hope of a cure for T1D!"

Join the Masonators and hundreds of others at the 2026 Breakthrough T1D Austin Walk at PopStroke on November 8.

Register today at walk.breakthrought1d.org/austin.

We are proud to announce Parker Fleming as our Honorary Corporate Grand Marshal for the 2026 Breakthrough T1D Austin Walk on November 8, 2026 at PopStroke!

Since attending his first Walk in 1997, Parker has seen firsthand the power of bringing together families, corporate partners, and community leaders to fund life-changing research, advocate for the T1D community, and move us closer to cures.

Parker’s story is one of resilience, family, and hope. Parker was diagnosed before the age of two and then his two younger siblings were diagnosed shortly after. The three siblings all grew up managing the daily challenges of T1D with the support of incredible parents who never let diabetes define their lives. Now Parker is a Corporate Affairs Manager at Cintra and a dedicated Breakthrough T1D Greater Austin Chapter Board Member.

Join Parker and his team, Parker’s Power Walkers, on November 8 as we walk together toward a future without type 1 diabetes. Register now at walk.breakthrought1d.org/austin.

As National Volunteer Week comes to a close, we’re celebrating seven incredible Southern Texas advocates who recently visited Capitol Hill to use their voices and drive change for the T1D community 💙

Jen Ford, Austin Thornton, Berkeley Barnett, Dee Dee Stephens, Peggy Kruckemeyer, Machell Day, and Meredith Athens met with Members of Congress to champion what matters most—federal research funding, insulin affordability, the promise of cell therapies, and the life-changing impact of early screening and detection.

Their advocacy is a powerful example of Partnering for Innovation — bringing lived experience, passion, and purpose together to influence progress at the highest level. As we wrap up this week of celebration, we are especially grateful for volunteers like these who are helping shape a brighter future for the T1D community 🙌
