Michaela and Brandon were one of the 2,800 people who lost their homes during the storms in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas earlier this week. After seeing snakes in the water near their home in Orange, Texas, Michaela and Brandon knew they needed to evacuate. They were directed to a shelter. “I am so thankful that there are people that care enough about us to try and keep us safe. We are happy to be here, and love the Red Cross volunteers.”

In honor of Presidents' Day, we wanted to share this fun memory from the archives. Back in 1962, 112 delegates from the Red Cross Operation VISTA program traveled to the United States, living with host families and participating in Red Cross service programs. During their visit, they also had the opportunity to meet President John F. Kennedy. (If you look closely on the left, you'll see a young Ban Ki-moon, currently UN Secretary-General.)
