Roberto Granado Valdez
January 28, 1945 – March 17, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of MECA founding member, Roberto Granado Valdez. A native of El Paso Texas, Mr. Valdez married the love of his life, MECA Founder, Alice Elizabeth Valdez, on August 9, 1969. His faith was central to his life, and he sought to model his actions after the teachings of Jesus Christ. This fed his deep involvement with St. Joseph Catholic Church in Houston, where he was one of the founding members of the St. Joseph Fun and Food Fest, the festival that led to the founding of Multicultural Education and Counseling through the Arts (MECA). His faith steered him to shape his career in a way that allowed him to support Alice in building and growing MECA.

Roberto's memory will live on in the hearts of all of us at MECA and those who loved him. May he rest in peace knowing he was dearly loved by all who knew him.
