At COCE Kenya, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and imagine a future filled with possibility.

In Busia County, Western Kenya, we work alongside local communities to expand access to education through student sponsorships, school materials, infrastructure projects, and community programs. Our current work includes the Library for Sijowa, a community space designed to give children and families greater access to books, technology, learning opportunities, and a safe place to gather.

Today, on the International Day to Protect Education from Attack, COCE Kenya joins the global community in affirming a simple principle: every child deserves a safe place to learn, grow, and dream.

Kenya’s education system uses Competency-Based Curriculum, which is a learner-centered approach that goes beyond memorizing information for exams. It helps learners apply what they know while developing their individual talents and practical skills like creativity, communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and digital literacy.

The Sijowa Community Library will support the CBC by providing access to books, technology, group activities, and a safe space where learners can explore their interests and practice new skills.

On the International Day of Charity, we are reminded that meaningful change often begins with a simple act of generosity.

We had the opportunity to visit and learn from Kiwimbi and see their library and community programs in action.
It was inspiring to witness the impact they’re making in Teso North by creating spaces for learning, growth, and connection.

A major milestone for COCE! 📚✨
Our team is currently in Kenya, experiencing the fully built Sijowa Community Library in person as we continue bringing this vision to life. While the library has begun welcoming community members and hosting its first activities, we are still in the furnishing stage and working toward its full completion.

We’re excited for what’s ahead as this space continues to grow into a hub for learning, connection, and opportunity. 💙📚
