The East Sunset Heights Association held its quarterly meeting on Tuesday, January 14th.
District H Councilman Mario Castillo spoke to those present. He encourages us to attend the Town Halls he has scheduled. Details can be found here: https://www.houstontx.gov/council/h/
Councilman Castillo also brought us up to date on the Sidewalk and District H Patrol initiatives.
During Question and Answer, he confirmed that we do need to be paying attention to proposed State of Texas Legislation that would create the Greater Heights Management District ("GHMD"). If that legislation passes and voters inside the designated district boundaries approve, the GHMD would begin assessing property owners a tax that would pay for services not necessarily provided by the City of Houston and/or Harris County. This is a potentially controversial issue as there is an overlap with the Greater Northside Management District and it's also unclear who would administer the use of the collected funds. The East Sunset Heights Association board is monitoring the situation and will post updates here as required.
Following Councilman Castillo's presentation, information and updates were:
> The Metro Transit Station Park Conversion is on track.
> A 501c3 has been established to solicit contributions supporting the park and other neighborhood quality-of-life initiatives.
> East Sunset Heights is a member of the Greater Heights Super Neigborhood Council. Details about the council's activities can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/GreaterHeightsSNC/
