The Longest Day and Shortest Night of 2026 have officially passed but we still want to offer up this anthem to summer (with apologies to Susan Cooper's "The Shortest Day") about summer that keeps on giving!

The Longest Day

And so the Longest Day came and Summer arrived.

And everywhere down the centuries of the sun-burnt world
Came people shading, hiding,
To keep the sweat away.

They fanned themselves in the summer heat;
They chilled their homes with air conditioning;
They sipped iced beverages on the porch at night
To keep themselves alive,
And when the summer sunshine blazed and baked
They moaned, despairing, "It's so HOT!"

Through all the humid ages you can hear them
Echoing behind us - listen!
All the damp echoes complain of the same plight,
This Longest Day,
As radiation bakes the steaming land;
They grumble, sweat, wear cotton,

And wearily wave their fans,
And Hope for breeze,
And now so do we, here, now,
This year and every year.

Summer's here!

Revels Houston proudly announces its thirty-third presentation of
THE 2026 CHRISTMAS REVELS!

The 2026 production will be The Christmas Revels A German / Alpine Celebration of the Winter Solstice, and will explore the Germanic origins of modern-day Yuletide customs, including Christmas trees, "Silent Night," and children's lantern processions that herald the beginning of Winter. St. Nicholas himself guides the audience through 19th Century winter celebrations from Bavaria and the surrounding Alpine regions of Austria and Switzerland. Featuring traditional Bavarian dances, legends, and joyful holiday music, this year's production highlights Alpine folk music and also includes pieces from two of Germany's most famous composers, Michael Praetorius and Ludwig van Beethoven.

There will be five performances of this family-oriented, musical holiday delight, December 18-20, 2026, at The Midtown Arts and Theater Center Houston (The MATCH), 3400 Main Street, Houston, Texas 77002. Tickets will be available beginning in October via matchouston.org or call 713-521-4533.
