On May 14th, Hindu YUVA, in conjunction with GISO and the Consulate General of India - Houston, hosted the University of Houston's 2nd annual International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebration on campus.

This event served as a curtain raiser for this year's upcoming International Day of Yoga celebrations across Houston. 2025 is the 11th year of IDY globally.

The event was graced by ~25 students and faculty members who embraced the art of Yoga, learning the importance of wellness, physical practice, and mindfulness.

Hindu YUVA, ISA, and GISO at the University of Houston would like to take a moment to condemn the horrific pogrom that took place yesterday in Kashmir. What happened in Pahalgam should shake every conscience. In broad daylight, innocent men, women, and children were brutally massacred in a terror attack in Kashmir - targeted solely because they were Hindu. This was a deliberate, hate-driven slaughter meant to terrorize a community that has been ignored and silenced for far too long.

We cannot stay quiet.

Join us in remembrance.

The Pahalgam Massacre was not a stand-alone incident. Rather, it was a grain of sand sitting in the centuries-old seashore of Kashmiri Hindu genocide.

On Tuesday, April 22nd, when the horrifying news first came out, a group of students at the University of Houston decided to take a solemn stand in remembrance of the 26+ innocent victims lost that day.

Hindu YUVA, University of Houston's central organization for representing Hindu student voices on campus, began organizing the student community and collaborated with GISO and ISA to host UH's Candlelight Vigil.

The vigil took place on April 24th from 2:30 pm to 3:15 pm at University of Houston's Butler Plaza. Among the nearly 70 that were present, youth leaders representing Hindu YUVA, Graduate Indian Student Organization (GISO), Indian Student Association (ISA), ISKCON Houston, SEWA International, and Coalition of Hindus North America (CoHNA) were present to share their words and prayers for those who passed. This solemn event was covered by FOX 26 Houston, Yahoo News, and TV ASIA.

Whether you are Hindu or not, taking the lives of innocent people in the name of religion is never acceptable. We ask that you take a moment to pray for the victims of Pahalgam and remember them in your hearts.
