Today as we celebrated both AAPI Heritage Month and Jewish American Heritage Month alongside incredible leaders from across the Houston community.

A special thank you to hosts Nancy Li-Tarim and Randi Sonenshein for bringing together voices from the Asian American Pacific Islander and Jewish communities for meaningful conversation, connection, and bridge-building.

We were honored to hear from Anne S. Chao, Co-Founder of the Houston Asian American Archive at Rice University, and Melissa Cohen-Nickels, Curator of the Joan and Stanford Alexander South Texas Jewish Archives at Rice University.

The luncheon also included a special proclamation recognizing the importance of both AAPI Heritage Month and Jewish American Heritage Month and the shared values, histories, and partnerships that continue to strengthen our communities.

Grateful for the conversations, collaboration, and commitment to building understanding together.

Abe visited ADL's Southwest Region many times, and we will miss him. May his memory be a blessing.

ADL deeply mourns the loss of our longtime national director, Abraham H. Foxman z”l. Abe, a Holocaust survivor, served his entire 50-year career at ADL, becoming one of the world’s foremost voices against antisemitism and hate.

May his memory be a blessing.

This is not just about numbers. This is about people. Every single one of these incidents affected one of your neighbors, friends, family, or community members. We must work together to prevent them!

🚨BREAKING: ADL recorded a total of 6,274 incidents of antisemitic assault, harassment and vandalism across the U.S. in 2025, an average of 17 incidents per day. Incidents occurred in all 50 states and Washington D.C.

The total number of incidents decreased by 33% from 2024 – that's measurable progress. However, the total remains 70% higher than in 2022, prior to the Oct. 7th Hamas massacre, and 130% higher than 5 years ago.

2025 was the third highest year on record for antisemitic incidents since ADL began tracking them in 1979. It was also one of the most violent years in recent memory. Physical assaults increased by 4%, assaults with a deadly weapon increased by 39% and three people were murdered in antisemitic attacks in the U.S.

Behind every incident is a real person or community. A young couple shot outside a museum. An elderly woman killed at a peaceful walk. A rabbi stabbed on the street. A child that has to see a sw****ka on their preschool building. Worshippers being harassed outside their synagogue.

This is unacceptable. That’s why ADL is monitoring threats, litigating in courtrooms, educating in classrooms, advocating in the halls of Congress and standing with every Jewish community under attack.

Tonight, communities gathered in homes across Houston for Zikaron BaSalon, creating space to hear powerful stories from Holocaust survivors, as well as second- and third-generation speakers.
ADL Southwest was proud to partner with the Federation and to host a dedicated young adult session, where two GLI cohorts shared their families’ stories with thoughtfulness and courage.
Thank you, Lauren and Rachel, for sharing your families' stories —honoring the past while strengthening our community for the future.
