Juan never imagined he would experience homelessness. After losing his job during the pandemic, Juan faced a series of challenges, mounting debt, health struggles, and caring for his ill mother, that eventually left him without stable housing.

For years, Juan moved from place to place, including time spent living in a storage unit. Everything began to change when he connected with SEARCH.

Within months, Juan moved into one of SEARCH’s housing programs, where he finally had a safe place to focus on his health, rebuild stability, and begin planning for the future.

Today, Juan’s story is a reminder that housing is more than shelter; it creates the foundation for healing, dignity, and hope.

For years, Thinisha described her life with one word: “existing.”

She experienced homelessness starting at just 13 years old, spending decades navigating survival without stability or support. But after being connected to housing, she finally had something solid to build on. She gained stability, reconnected with her children after 18 years apart, and started building a future that once felt out of reach. Today, she’s a peer support specialist, helping others find their own path forward.

That foundation made it possible for her to rebuild her life, reconnect with her family, and step into a new role helping others who are facing similar challenges.

Her story is a reminder that with the right support, a different future is possible. We’re grateful to walk alongside our clients through every step of that journey.

Big milestones start with small steps.

At the House of Tiny Treasures, 14 young students celebrated their graduation surrounded by the people who helped them grow, learn, and thrive. Families, teachers, and community partners all played a part in this moment, and it showed in every smile in the room.

For LaShawna, experiencing homelessness brought moments of doubt, humility, and uncertainty. At SEARCH’s House of Tiny Treasures, she and her children found more than support for her kids. They found care for their whole family. With access to resources and a community that showed up for both parent and child, LaShawna was able to rebuild stability for the future.

At SEARCH, we believe that homelessness is an experience, not an identity. Lisa's story shows that one's worth is not defined by your job, your challenges, or your housing situation. She is living proof that people can push past their struggles, recover, and restore what was there before.

At SEARCH, we know that providing a home is just the first step. Once individuals have a safe place to live, we continue to walk alongside them with the resources they need to stay housed and move forward.

Our team of skilled case managers provides ongoing support right where our clients live, helping them increase their income, improve their health, and build toward self-sufficiency. From employment supports to wraparound care, we make sure no one has to take the next steps alone.

This work is about more than housing. It is about ensuring every person has the tools, support, and opportunities to build a future filled with dignity and hope.

Students from the St. John's School spent time creating snack packs for SEARCH outreach teams, helping support individuals experiencing homelessness across Houston. Through St. John’s School’s community service elective program, students are able to learn about community impact directly from their classrooms while taking meaningful action to help others.

Community, connection, and celebration all came together at the Villas this Cinco de Mayo. Residents shared food, laughter, and culture while building meaningful relationships with one another and with our team.

Moments like Fiesta Bingo brought both joy and purpose, creating space to learn, connect, and take home something useful. But more than anything, it was a reminder that creating welcoming spaces matters. When people feel seen, valued, and supported, it strengthens the sense of community that helps everyone move forward.

We are grateful to our team and partners who helped make this day so special and for continuing to walk alongside our residents every day.
