The Australia – New Zealand Society of Texas (TANZOT) is a cultural and social organization formed over 30 years ago by Australians and New Zealanders living in Houston. There are also events held for traditional Australian and New Zealand celebrations like Australia and Waitangi Day as well as an ANZAC Day commemorative service and BBQ. TANZOT welcomes people from all nationalities in the Houston

area. If you are interested in our cultures or have visited our beautiful countries, you are invited to join our fun group.

Five pounds of Tim Tams and three tins of Milo - that's what Guardians second baseman Travis Bazzana brought in his luggage when he moved to America at 18.

Last month he became the first Australian-born player since at least 1900 to hit a walk-off home run in the majors.

Meet Australian Joe Quinn - an American baseball legend.

In 1884 he became the first Australian to play Major League Baseball when he took the field for St. Louis.

He went on to spend 17 seasons in the big leagues, win five championships, captain and manage teams across America, and in 1893 was voted “America’s Most Popular Player.”

For an incredible 102 years, Quinn remained the only Australian to reach the majors.

More than a century later, he remains a pioneer of the long sporting connection between our two countries.
