ACS-GHS received ChemLuminary Award for outstanding performance by a local section at the American Chemical Society Fall Meeting 2026 in Chicago. Lisa Houston and Dawn Friesen (2nd and 3rd from the left) from our section accepted the award from ACS President-Elect Christina (Chris) Bodurow (1st from the left), and ACS Committee on Local Section Activities Chair Luke Roberson (1st from the right).

The Greater Houston Section of the American Chemical Society recently concluded another successful Project SEED Summer Program, led by Eme Abu!

This summer, 16 students completed research experiences at the University of Houston, Sam Houston State University, and Houston Electron Microscopy Laboratory. The program culminated in a Celebration of Learning at St. John's School in Houston, where more than 100 attendees gathered to recognize the students' achievements and the impact of the program.

The event also recognized this year's scholarship recipients which was led by Tai-Yen Chen. In addition, our local section's Best in High School Chemistry Teaching award recipient, Eric Oblinger, and our dedicated Project SEED mentors were honored for their outstanding contributions.

We wrapped up the summer on a high note! Congratulations to all of our students, scholarship recipients, mentors, and award winners on an outstanding summer of discovery, learning, and achievement.

Safer Science Summit

FREE FOR TEACHERS! The K-12 STEAM Safer Science Summit is an immersive event focused on enhancing the understanding of government and state lab safety regulations and the compliance with and implementation of safety protocols within STEAM education environments.

This program is offered by the Laboratory Safety Institute and two locations are available for summer 2026.

Just two weeks left! Our ACS colleagues in the Brazosport area are inviting nominations for their 2026 Chemical Technician Award! Nominees must live or work in Brazoria, Victoria, Wharton, Jackson, Calhoun, or Matagorda County, and must have worked as a chemical operator, technician, and/or technologist for a minimum of five years to be eligible for this award.
