From November 15–21, we’re honoring the brilliance, resilience, and leadership of Black Trans people—our stories, our joy, our healing, and our power. 💜
All week long we’ll uplift community with:
Saturday, November 15th
The Black Trans Empowerment Week Open Ceremony is the kickoff and welcoming event to our weeklong engagement for community members as well as those who have traveled to Houston to engage with our Black Trans community and our allies.

Sunday, November 16th
Trans Empowerment and Alliance Party & Award Brunch (TEA Party) -
The TEA Party serves as a vital fundraiser, channeling resources into initiatives that address the pressing needs of TGNC individuals. The highlight of the event is the awards ceremony, where outstanding Black and POC TGNC Houstonians, as well as allies, are honored for their remarkable contributions to the community. These accolades not only recognize past achievements but also inspire others to become advocates for positive change. The TEA Party fosters upward mobility, allocates resources to essential services, and underscores the importance of community activism, leadership development, and civic engagement within the TGNC community, fostering a brighter future for all.

Monday, November 17th
Transgender Day of Rest -
On Transgender Day of Rest, we encourage all Black transgender folks to adopt rest as an expression of self-love and fortitude. Seize this moment to nurture your spirit and honor the tenacity within you. To assist community members in practicing rest, we will provide virtual guided meditation, meditation, and breathwork sessions commencing at 6 PM on Zoom.

Tuesday, November 18th
Family Portrait Day -
Format: Free professional photo sessions for Black trans families.
Details: Invite families of all kinds to get portraits taken in affirming, celebratory spaces. Pair it with a short panel or discussion on chosen family resilience.
Activation: Families get printed/digital portraits plus the option to contribute one to a community exhibit: “The Faces of Black Trans Family.”
Why it works: Dignity, visibility, and celebration of family. Annual portraits build a growing legacy archive.

Wednesday, November 19th: Dear Marsha
This unique gathering provides a platform for individuals to connect, not only through spoken and visual art but also through meaningful dialogues and the process of healing. "Dear Marsha" serves as a heartfelt tribute to the life and enduring legacy of Marsha P. Johnson, while also amplifying the voices and showcasing the faces that represent the joys and challenges of today's TGNC community.

Thursday, November 20th: Reign In Paradise
Reign In Paradise features displays of images, biographies, and artwork paying tribute to these individuals. Guests are invited to reflect, remember, and participate in a meaningful ceremony and community mixer aimed at building resilience, unity, and collective action among Houston's LGBTQIA+ community. So come, honor, and celebrate the lives of Trans individuals lost too soon at the Reign In Paradise event.

Friday, November 21st: SoulGiving
SoulGiving is an annual festive gathering, a harmonious symphony of joy and connection that weaves together the vibrant threads of our community through delectable meals and enlightening conversations. It's a rejuvenating space where kindred spirits converge, nurturing profound bonds that evoke a sense of family and shared jubilation.
