Headed to the Produced By Conference in Los Angeles on May 30? Houston Film Commission will be there.

Events like this matter because they put Houston in the room while projects are still being developed, not just after key decisions have already been made. We will be connecting directly with producers, studios, and industry partners, sharing why Houston is a smart, production-ready choice, and building relationships that can lead to future projects, investment, and local industry growth.

Just as important, we will be bringing value back home. These conversations offer insight into what producers need now, where the market is heading, and how Houston can continue to strengthen its position through crew, locations, incentives, and infrastructure.

If you are attending, let’s connect.

Crew Spotlight: Bo Svensson 🎥

For 27 years, Bo Svensson has been helping productions find the shot, solve the problem, and keep the day moving.

As a Houston-based location scout and manager, he’s worked across commercials, music videos, and photo shoots, bringing both creative instinct and serious on-the-ground experience to the job. And after nearly three decades in the industry, his take on Houston’s film scene is simple: “we're a production family.”

A film production does not just show up on screen. It shows up in the local economy. When productions come to Houston, they support caterers, hotels, drivers, equipment vendors, builders, stylists, printers, and countless other small businesses that help keep a set running.

That is part of the real value of film. Not just the final product, but the dollars circulated, the jobs supported, and the business generated across the community.

Are you a small business interested in working with productions? Houston Film Commission would love to connect.

Crew Spotlight: Samantha Smart

Writing from the depths of her soul, Samantha Smart filmed her proudest movie right in her hometown. She got hooked on Houston’s cinematic splendor — from the skyline where her dad worked to the waters of Galveston, where she first saw the Gulf. In her eyes, there’s nowhere more cinematic.

Houston is where she nerded out in choir and danced her heart out. After theater, indie films, and TV, she wrote, produced, and acted in her hometown feature CHARLIEBIRD, now a Best Feature winner at Tribeca. She also stars as Miss Labinia Talbot in the 2024 Oscar-Nominated short film, Jane Austen’s Period Drama.

Savoring chaotic writing, Houston’s diversity, and the best barbecue, she’s developing her next feature. “Texas may be involved!”

Your Crew’s Secret Weapon: Theater District Parking 🚗🎬

Crew cars, grip trucks, and production trailers. How do you secure safe parking anywhere in Houston? Theater District Parking… serving Houston’s central business district as it zips around the clock.

Think 18 underground blocks. 3,369 spaces (so you’re never left scrambling). Conveniently located beneath Jones Plaza, Bayou Place, and Tranquillity Park. That’s an easy win for keeping your production rolling like a champion.

Plan savvy. Shoot smooth.
