In the Beginning...The Dickinson Festival of Lights began as an idea between two neighbors, John Montgomery and Robert Morgan in 1998. Shortly after the Idea was formed, the images began to take shape and soon those images were transformed into steel objects wrapped with lights, creating some of the very displays that you see at the Festival today. The Festival began with 100,000 lights and encompassed the triangle of property where the Gazebo sits at HWY 3 and 44th Street. In 2003 the Festival was moved to Paul Hopkins Park to accommodate the growing popularity and room for new displays that were added. John and Robert's goal was to provide a family oriented event that would invoke the spirit of the holidays into people's lives. These two gentlemen left a wonderful legacy to Dickinson, a tradition that we can all be proud of and one we can hope to continue for years to come.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our dear friend, Jack Neal.

For 13 years, Jack faithfully served as Treasurer and a member of the Board of Directors for the Dickinson Festival of Lights. To countless volunteers, however, he was simply "Uncle Jack." His warm smile, gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and servant's heart touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jack's love for Christ, his devotion to his Catholic faith, and his commitment to serving our community were evident in everything he did. Whether he was quietly working behind the scenes, welcoming volunteers, or ensuring the Festival of Lights continued to bring joy to thousands of families each Christmas, Jack exemplified what it means to live a life of humility, kindness, and purpose.

His legacy will continue to shine brightly through the lives he touched and the traditions he helped build.

Please keep Jack's family and loved ones in your prayers during this difficult time. Rest in the peace of Christ, Uncle Jack. Your light will continue to guide us, and you will forever hold a special place in our hearts. ❤️🎄

🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day from all of us at the Dickinson Festival of Lights! 🇺🇸

Today, as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, we honor the courage, sacrifice, and enduring spirit of the men and women who helped establish our great nation.

For two and a half centuries, Americans have come together to celebrate the blessings of liberty, faith, family, and community. Those same values continue to shine brightly here in Dickinson as neighbors, volunteers, local businesses, and visitors unite each holiday season to create unforgettable memories for thousands of families.

As you enjoy fireworks, time with loved ones, and the freedoms we cherish, take a moment to reflect on the incredible legacy we've inherited—and the responsibility we all share to preserve it for future generations.

From our Festival family to yours, we wish you a safe, joyful, and blessed Independence Day.

Their courage, dedication, and selflessness are the reason we are able to gather, celebrate, and enjoy the freedoms we hold dear. Today, and every day, we extend our deepest gratitude to those heroes and to the families who carry their legacy forward.
