🌱For 55 years, Citizens' Environmental Coalition has worked to bring people together around environmental issues impacting the Houston Gulf Coast region.
We were honored to be recognized by the Harris County Commissioners Court with a resolution celebrating our 55th anniversary and decades of community collaboration, education, and environmental leadership in advance of World Environment Day.

This milestone reflects the many partners, volunteers, members, and community leaders who have shaped CEC over the years, and the work still ahead as we continue building a more resilient and sustainable region together.

Thank you to Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, Texas State Representative Gene Wu, Lisa Lin, LEED AP of Harris County Office of County Administration, Jennifer Hadayia, MPA of Air Alliance Houston, Nicole Cloutier, Doug Peterson and Rachel Powers for joining us in recognizing this milestone!

🌱There’s still time to read Waste Wars: The Wild Afterlife of Your Trash by Alexander Clapp and join us for a discussion. The book is an odyssey that follows our waste (from plastics to cell phones to retired cruise ships) around the world. It shows us the environmental degradation and human suffering that occurs as a result of our waste, ultimately highlighting that colonialism is not over, it has just taken a new form.

🌱You can help Texas mountain lions by filling out this form to support a new regulation that requires anyone who kills a mountain lion in Texas to report it. Texas has two mountain lion populations, far West Texas and South Texas. Mandatory harvest reporting would provide data that is needed to determine population size, health, and trends regarding mountain lions. Human-caused mortality is the primary cause of Texas’ mountain lion deaths, though the numbers are unknown because harvest reporting is not currently required. Landowner privacy would be maintained as only the county name would be reported, which will not be disclosed to the public.

TPWD is soliciting public comments on this issue. Access the form here: https://tpwd.texas.gov/business/feedback/public_comment/proposals/202605_mountain_lion_harvest_reporting.phtml , then provide your name and county of residence, choose “Agree Completely” after reviewing the proposal, make any optional comments, then press Submit.
