Midtown Houston Arts Midtown Houston is a catalyst in supporting art. We were designated as a state of Texas Cultural Arts & Entertainment District in 2012.

We are known for our picturesque park spaces, long-standing arts organizations and national award winning public art. Midtown Houston is a State of Texas designated Cultural Arts & Entertainment District community. In 2012 our District was the first management district in the state to apply and receive this esteemed designation. This type of designation is one of several ways that communities can enhance the development of an area. The District has a published 10-Year Cultural Arts Master Plan. Midtown is home to more than 20 arts organizations and over 350 art presenters. Since 2018 our Cultural District has distributed more than $90,000 in arts grants funding to local artists and arts organizations. We report annually to Texas Commission on the Arts about our cultural tourist impact. Our community is steeped in cultural heritage and a deep belief in the importance of Cultural Arts to educate and heal. The Midtown Cultural Arts and Entertainment District is governed by the Midtown Management District, a non-profit entity with a Board of Directors. Midtown Houston’s first Artist in Residence, D⃣ U⃣ A⃣ L⃣, visited this summer, and we’d like our block friends to get to know the mastermind behind Urban Wild: Hidden Nature of Midtown through an eight-part photographic series by |PHOTOGRAPHER| Editorial•Art•Event•Food•Branding•Portrait. Let’s get started!

Part I:
DUAL is a Houston-based visual artist who has been a fixture in the city’s creative landscape since 2005. His work explores the tension between street art and fine art, anonymity and recognition, and the built environment and the natural world.

He holds a BFA in Painting from the University of Houston, where he developed a signature visual language rooted in hard-edge abstraction, vibrant color, and layered composition. His practice spans murals, paintings, sculpture, and tape-based works. His work has been exhibited in galleries and public spaces across Houston and beyond, spanning institutional exhibitions, community-driven projects, and brand collaborations.
