Vargis Scholarship Fund is an educational scholarship with the mission to provide financial support to under-privileged students in India to pursue a professional degree in nursing or information technology. Our goal is to build a lasting, sustainable fund that will serve as a source of access to higher education for those who financially fall beneath the poverty line. Vargis or “Vargis Achen” has

been our beloved parish priest for over 30 years. He retired in the Fall of 2014 from his pastoral ministry of more than 50 years as a priest of the Malankara Orthodox Church. In lieu of a traditional monetary gift, Vargis Achen’s friends and family gave him a gift that would carry-on his pastoral ministry for future generations. A non-profit scholarship fund was founded in honor of his dedication to professional education. Over the years, he has tirelessly advocated for the advancement of education for children in the United States and India, and has personally financed numerous students. Vargis’ love for Christ, his Church, his flock along with the belief that an education cannot only edify one person but uplift an entire family out of poverty has been the driving force behind his work.
