This Saturday is National Prescription Drug take back day. Please take this opportunity to dispose of unused pills and patches correctly. Flushing them down the toilet or putting them in the trash can lead to the medications ending up in our bayous and creeks. Dickinson is the closest drop off location to Hitchcock and La Marque. Help protect .

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day
Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands. That's dangerous and often tragic. That's why Dickinson Police Department, partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is giving folks from across the city the opportunity to clean out their medicine cabinets - safely and anonymously – and rid their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.

On Saturday, October 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the public can bring prescription medication for disposal to the parking lot of the Dickinson Police Station at 4000 Liggio, Dickinson, Texas. The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps, so ONLY pills or patches will be accepted. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. Officials will be at the parking lot entrance to assist with collecting and disposing of the prescription medication, so those dropping off will not have to get out of the car and go into the building.

If your septic system was flooded with Harvey, please take a minute to see if it’s working properly.

Aerobic Systems
• Under ground tanks and components should be fine.
• Contact your maintenance provider for a thorough inspection of the electrical components such as the blower motor, pump timer, and control panel which are considered water tight for rain but not for flooding. Electrical components might need to be replaced by your maintenance company.
• It is dangerous to turn the system back on without having it checked out. It could be more expensive in the long run if something burns up because it wasn’t checked and dried out first.
• The chlorinator should be checked and usually needs refilled.
• If your septic system was damaged by erosion, contact a licensed installer to have the repairs properly permitted.
• A malfunctioning septic system should not be used.
• A possible solution might be to rent a port-o-let and don’t put water into the septic system (no laundry, dishwashing, etc).

Older Conventional (Non-Aerobic) Systems
• These systems will typically recover on their own given the chance for the soil to dry out.
• Try to flush less often and avoid doing laundry (each load adds 15-25 gallons) until the area starts to dry out.
• Do not pump out your systems right now. These tanks are buoyant when empty and can float up when empty in saturated soils.
• If your septic system was damaged by erosion, contact a licensed installer to have the repairs properly permitted.
• A malfunctioning septic system should not be used
• A possible solution might be to rent a port-o-let and don’t put water into the septic system (no laundry, dishwashing, etc).
