Texas collected $52.24 billion in state sales taxes in fiscal year 2026 alone. 💰

As the cost of groceries, household necessities, and other goods continues to put pressure on families, we should be asking: Who is carrying the tax burden, and what can our state leaders do to make life more affordable?

It’s fair to ask our elected leaders, including the Governor and Legislature to look at the whole picture, not just property taxes.
Affordability is a community issue. And it deserves a community conversation.

Bringing community voices to the table matters. Creating space to discuss the issues impacting Houston’s Black community, understanding how local decisions are made, and exploring how we can turn our collective voice into meaningful action are all part of the work.

🚨BREAKING: The Supreme Court has cleared the way for expanded federal data to be used to check voter registration records.

The ruling allows states, for now, to use the federal SAVE database to verify the citizenship status of people on their voter rolls. The Trump administration says the system is intended to identify potential noncitizens who are registered to vote.

But there are concerns about accuracy. Government databases have previously flagged eligible U.S. citizens as potential noncitizens, raising concerns that eligible voters could be asked to prove their citizenship or face problems with their registration.

There is also an important limitation: federal law restricts states from conducting broad voter-roll removals within 90 days of a federal election, meaning the immediate impact on the November midterms may be limited.

This is a developing story. We’re watching what this decision means for voters and access to the ballot.
