Team Sophia

Team Sophia This is our page for news about Sophia, her treatment, and the work we do in her name to help others fighting cancer, for the glory of God.

This page is all about Sophia and her healing from Undifferentiated Soft Tissue Sarcoma (cancer)! She is 9 years old, diagnosed on 10/13/10 at the age of 4 with the tumor next to her left eye. She completed 11 months of chemo therapy at Texas Children's Oncology Clinic in Houston and 5 weeks of radiation at MD Anderson Proton Therapy Center. She was the youngest patient to ever complete proton the

rapy without sedation. She completed treatment on 7/27/11 and has been in remission since then. She will be "promoted" to the long term care clinic after her last scans in August 2015! In her honor, we put together "Comfort Kits" of items that bring some peace of mind to newly diagnosed cancer patients, both adult and pediatric. We also work in conjunction with other patient support organizations to help those in treatment through prayer, gifts and service. Please let us know if we can help someone you love today.

Eye opening article and a reality we are well acquainted with!

The National Cancer Institute will soon announce its budget allocations for next year. Unfortunately, we expect what has been the case for many years — childhood cancers will receive only minimal funding. Second to accidents, cancer is the leading cause of death in children. As a dependent and vulne…

Hi Team - I've known and prayed about Julian's battle with cancer for a long time. This is not good news. But we know God to be a healer, so please pray for it! Please lift him and his family up and he continues to endure a terrible disease and treatment.

I cannot breathe, this picture just hurts. All that white glowing mess is cancer. It is everywhere. He is now in a CT of the brain to look for a tumor. Tomorrow, bone marrow aspirations to collect samples to send to a molecular lab to see if anything new will work. It is however doubtful and this may be it.

Sophia's hair was so long, she was having a very hard time brushing out the tangles. So, yesterday she asked me to take her to get her hair cut. She cut nearly 6 inches off and it still sits at her shoulders. She won't let me take a picture but trust me when I tell you - IT IS SO CUTE!

Holy Smokes! I'm almost in 3rd grade! I'd been in Pre-K for almost 2 months when I was diagnosed & Kindergarten for 1 day when I was declared "finished with treatment." I was on the news too. That was pretty cool. I don't have much to say about 3rd grade yet, I'd rather just watch cartoons at the moment. My next round of scans is coming on September 5th - it is the 3rd from the last - only 2 more after this and then I'm officially in "Long Term Care," and hopefully declared cured! That's only a year away, I wonder what kind of adventures I'll have to report on in a year, exciting!

Can't wait to post pictures of Sophia when she accomplishes majors like this!
