What does "good" look like? It looks like a community that never stops moving, playing, and thriving—no matter what year they were born.

This past Tuesday evening, the Rotary Club of Houston Skyline had the privilege of hosting Fritz McDonald, Founder of the Great Age Movement.

Fritz shared the incredible story behind the growth of his organization and hit home a vital truth: staying active and "playing" isn't just for kids. Continuous movement is the key to maintaining our health, fitness, and independence as we get older. He even got us out of our seats for a brief, hands-on introduction to some of the workouts they provide for senior citizens right here in Houston!

When we support visionary organizations that design spaces and programs for seniors to thrive, we guarantee that tomorrow is better than today for every generation in our city.

Don't just read about our impact—come be a part of it! Here is how you can get involved and join the Skyline family this month:

🌳 Friday, April 24th (Partner Event): Age on the Green!
Head down to Discovery Green from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM for the Great Age Movement's free health and wellness music festival. All ages are welcome to enjoy live jazz, hula hooping, shuffleboard, a Houston Ballet movement class, and a senior fashion show!

🌿 Sunday, April 26th (Social & Service): Bayous + Berries + Bikes + Brews!
Join us on White Oak Bayou with A Tale of Two Bridges as we slow down, learn to spot local birds with our community, and enjoy a relaxing spring afternoon. Skyliners will be showing others how to use Merlin Bird ID and iNaturalist to learn more about our wild neighbors we share Houston with!

From AToTB:
"We’re bringing people together along White Oak Bayou to:
– pick free wild blackberries (yes, really)
– hang out with local greenspace + bayou groups
– make fresh blackberry cobbler on-site
– and enjoy drinks + good company"

Send us a message to RSVP or learn more.

The Wagons of Cheer Finale & A Skyline Celebration!

What does "good" look like? For Skyline this week it looks like a room full of friends, family and colleagues supporting local economies, celebrating our achievements, and funding the future of Rotary Skyline.

This last Tuesday night, we officially drew the winners for our First Annual Wagons of Cheer Raffle! A massive congratulations to our lucky winners:
🍷 The Booze Wagon: District Governor Tom Kelchner
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 The Family Wagon: Past District Governor E Michelle Bohreer
❤️ The Couple's Wagon: Lawrence and Sharlene Barris
While they took home the cheer, the real winner is our community. Every ticket sold directly adds to the financial ability of the Rotary Club of Houston Skyline to do the most good. It ensures we have the supplies and resources to guarantee that tomorrow can be better than today.

But the drawing was just the beginning of an incredible night!
Growing the Family: We proudly inducted our newest member, John Martin of the American Red Cross. Welcome to Skyline, John!

Honoring Dedication: We celebrated outstanding commitment to service by awarding Paul Harris Fellow honors to Sharon D. Taylor (+6), Suzanne McClendon Murdock (+1), and Lauren Croucher (+1).
A Birthday Surprise: With some surprise help from his family, we even managed to surprise our very own Club President, Charlie Ewing, with a Paul Harris Fellow +2 for his birthday! 🎉
The momentum doesn't stop here.

Come build a better Houston with us this weekend:
🌿 Saturday Morning (Service): We are teaming up with A Tale of Two Bridges to clean out the Lawrence Park Gulley at MKT. Roll up your sleeves with us!

Howdy, Skyliners and Friends!

What an AWESOME way to kick off November! This weekend, our incredible club truly embodied "Uniting for Good" by coming together with friends, family, and some of the amazing Interact Club of Travis High School students for a morning of Caring Through Crafts! 🍂✂️

It was more than just crafting; it was a powerful membership engagement activity where we transformed everyday plastic grocery bags into recycled sleeping mats for our unhoused neighbors, with a special focus on assisting our beloved US Veterans. Talk about making a tangible difference!

Our morning started with delicious breakfast and lively conversation, building connections that are at the heart of Rotary. We even took the opportunity to share the concept of "vertical supply chains" with the Interact students – showing how one individual or group can take a project from start to finish, from collecting bags to creating the final mat!

Crafting projects are always a wonderful chance to socialize, catch up, and strengthen our community bonds. We had a blast visiting, making holiday plans, and enjoying genuine fellowship, all while making a real impact. It was truly a morning of fellowship, fun, and meaningful recycling!

This project, for many of us, became a deeply personal part of our Rotary "Why." We were incredibly proud to give back, recycle, and help those in need right here in our community.

We hope this inspires you to share these projects with others, or better yet, JOIN US! Visit the Rotary Club of Houston Skyline (or a Rotary near you) to help make tomorrow better than today for ALL.
