Thank you to Judy Williams for sharing this story! Congratulations on your class reunion!
The Houston High School Class of 1958 celebrated 67 years of being alumni with an old fashioned “Pizza Party” at the Houston American Legion. Little historical information – pizza had just come into existence back in the 50’s with the infamous Pizza Villa as the most popular. It was thin crusted phenomenal tasting that I still dream of eating one last time. However, the Legion’s pizza is a close second.
I have enjoyed seeing pictures of class reunions that have been posted this summer/fall. As a former teacher of many, I try to identify those in the pictures but I admit that sometimes I am totally baffled. Isn’t it amazing how time changes everyone!
When you have 67 years of time go by, much has changed. We think we have a good turn out when 10 are able to come. The first thing we do is assess through our conversations health conditions and losses of loved ones or classmates. Once we get that out of the way, we travel back in time to the moments that only our class can relate to because we were the only ones who experienced it. We have talked about pretty much the same things for 67 years and each year it still makes us laugh and smile and enjoy the long ago moments once again. Just for general information, our class was the first class to have a banquet and prom. The gym (elementary) was exquisite being decorated like oriental gardens. We had sports (no girls), band, plays, Homecoming, Winter Sports (eventually Sno Daze), pep fests, Homecoming parade, Homecoming bonfire, Homecoming snake dance, sock hops, Houstonian (high school paper in the Houston Signal) yearbook, Student Council and more.
But when 67 years of time has gone by, it is the faces you see when you get together for one more reunion. They suddenly spark our memories and for a few more special moments, we relive those years that played such a big role in influencing who we became for the rest of our lives.
It was a good day!

Guess what? Next year will be our next All-School Reunion! Our tradition is to alternate Hoedown Saturday and Homecoming Saturday, and our 2026 reunion will be held on Homecoming weekend (date to be determined).
We will hold our Wall of Fame induction ceremony at the reunion. If you know of a Houston alum who you think should be recognized, please nominate them! Be watching for the nomination form to be available around town, or message our page and we will see that you receive a form.

🌟 Announcing Our First-Ever Heritage Award Winner! 🌟

The Houston Area Museum is proud to present the 2025 Inaugural Heritage Award to Ron Carrier.

In August 2025, the Houston Area Museum created and established the Heritage Award to recognize individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to preserving, celebrating, and promoting the history and heritage of the Houston Area. This prestigious honor reflects patriotism, community pride, and a dedication to safeguarding our shared past.

Few embody that spirit more than Ron. From the very beginning, Ron was instrumental in helping us establish and grow the museum. He gifted us his extensive, carefully curated collection of Houston memorabilia, personally sharing the stories, significance, and origins behind each piece. As the nomination noted:

“This gift was more than a collection of artifacts; it was a gift of knowledge, context, and heart.”

Ron’s passion for Houston’s history is unmatched. He once remarked:

“I’ve been collecting Houston memorabilia my entire life. If I was at an auction bidding on a Houston item, you might as well stop bidding, because I planned on bidding until the item was mine.”

Because of Ron’s generosity, when our museum first opened its doors, we were able to proudly display artifacts that truly tell the story of our community. His continued support over the years has enriched our collection and strengthened our ability to preserve Houston’s heritage for future generations.

It is with deep gratitude and pride that we recognize Ron Carrier as our very first Heritage Award recipient, a true guardian of Houston’s history and legacy.

Please join us in congratulating Ron on this well-deserved honor! 👏🎉
