Organizational HERstory Long before they considered themselves M.A.D. Girls, Jodi Sparks and Nichet Smith were simply friends with a passion for being of service to others and Making A Difference. Having met during their college years at Arizona State University, the two women shared an entrepreneurial spirit with a creative edge for making things happen. With busy lives after graduating, the pair lost touch with one another for several years. During that time, Jodi, was raising kids and was a real estate broker while overseeing her teen daughter’s singing career as the 2007 “American Idol” winner. Jodi also managed the family’s philanthropic efforts of Sparks Charities. Meanwhile, Nichet became a successful nonprofit executive who frequently traveled around the globe, collaborating with world leaders, presidents and celebrities to coordinate trade conferences and international humanitarian relief efforts in Africa. She was also serving on the board of several nonprofit organizations and other committees. In 2005, Jodi and Nichet reconnected. A few years later, in 2009 things took an exciting turn. Jodi was eager to find business partners to help take her philanthropic efforts to the next level while Nichet was contemplating a career change to pursue her entrepreneurial dreams. One fall evening, Nichet sent a text message to Jodi sharing that she had quit her job and was looking for new opportunities. Jodi replied with a one-word response: “Yesssssss!!!!!!” A few months later, Jodi and Nichet officially incorporated The M.A.D. Girls Inc. Combining their business and nonprofit expertise with their passion for helping others, the two identified service projects dear to their hearts and went about finding ways to help. Since that time, the organization impacted nearly 20 causes and raised over $500,000 for a variety of initiatives. Their service projects included successfully managing Jordin and P.J. Sparks’ I’m M.A.D. Are You? campaign that motivates thousands of teens to volunteer in their communities in Phoenix and around the country. They also coordinated online fundraising efforts to end domestic violence, homelessness, child abuse and support those affected by Hurricane Harvey. They’ve also promoted several awareness campaigns. Their most well known fundraising and community service event, held every year for 10 years during Super Bowl week, is the Jordin Sparks Experience which celebrated it’s final year in 2017. Stay tuned though...they will never stop making a difference and are constantly working to spread the love!
