Placement options
URM programs provide options like foster care, group homes, supervised independent living, or assistance in reuniting with relatives in the US.

The URM program will provide you with caregiving arrangements—foster homes, group homes, supervised independent living, or help you reunite with relatives in the U.S. It will also offer other services to help you meet your needs and thrive, including medical, dental, emotional wellness and mental health services; education; classes on living independently in a new culture; and cultural orientation to help you get acclimated to your new environment and become a part of your new community while honoring your ethnic, cultural, and religious heritage.

The URM program specifically targets refugee children who are considered "unaccompanied" meaning they entered the country without a parent or legal guardian to care for them. Focusing on vulnerable youth.

Supporting at-risk youth is essential for their success, as they face challenges like financial struggles, unstable families, mental health issues, or violence. Addressing these needs with guidance, psychological support, education, and community involvement helps them overcome barriers.

The main goal of URM, which stands for "Unaccompanied Refugee Minor," is to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate foster care and support services to refugee children who arrive in the United States without a parent or legal guardian, aiming to either reunite them with family members in the US or help them integrate into the community through independent living placements, while preserving their cultural heritage and supporting their well-being.

URM program encourages reunification of minors with their parents or other appropriate adult relatives whenever possible. Minors whose parents are deceased, untraceable, or inappropriate due to abuse or neglect may be placed in foster care for a long-term basis. Placement options include foster homes, group homes, supervised independent living, and residential treatment facilities.

We champion unaccompanied children and advocate for the United States to be consistent in its humanitarian mission in providing specialized care through the only internationally recognized program for unaccompanied children in the world.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day, observed on the third Monday of January, honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a key civil rights leader known for advocating nonviolent protest and ending racial segregation.

His "I Have a Dream" speech during the 1963 March on Washington is particularly celebrated. The holiday encourages reflection, civic engagement, and education on civil rights, with many participating in community service to honor his legacy.

It is a time to reaffirm commitment to equality, freedom, and justice, values Dr. King championed throughout his life.
