One day 12 years ago I was up in the middle of the night and couldn't sleep. God wouldn't let me rest for almost a week! He said get on Facebook and say you need help to do this special day for breast cancer survivors! I was confused cause that never crossed my mind. But I did it anyway! I got 250 people asking me could they help! I didn't even have ONE lady for the event or any idea what I was doing.. BUT I started working on it anyway!!
I got hate messages at first, people telling me what I should do and who I should do it for. You name it, I got it!
After that I got the hotel spaces donated thanks Hotel Indigo (Scott) they rolled out all the carpets they could find!
But we still didn't have any ladies! People started telling friends and family and referring ladies and I think I had 5 or 6 at the time. My mother said "don't worry about how many just do everything you're going to do even if you only have ONE!" That was all I needed to hear! After that we started getting a couple more.
Then my BFF called the news! It was go time! I did not want to be on the news but i had to so we couls get the word out. I hated it lol
Even though they are all my ladies! The first ones are always the most special! They helped get it going by trusting us with their stories! We went on to do 5 more events!! We've heard so many survivor stories, even the volunteers had some to share!
This was the first one. So random and so fun! Everybody wanted to help! We laughed and cried and ate all day! It was like the food just kept coming! Ms kept saying hold on I got something else! Lol and kept popping up with another pot!
Just good ole community! Everybody helped, no egos, no attitudes! Even when something went wrong folks kicked in to make it right!!
Facebook will not let me tag every member involved in these so I will try and pull up all the videos I can..
Feel free to tag yourself! Share!! Comment! Share a memory if you would like!
So I thought my funniest memory would be Ms Mary asking me what I was doing when I had to curl her hair real quick because one of the stylist was with the photographer! Everybody cracked up! (She didn't know I did hair)
October is national Breast Cancer Awareness Month!!
Thank you ALL !!
