Calling All Hams!!!!

Time to Volunteer for this year’s Wings Over Houston Airshow. We need your help! Come and put your ‘ham radio’ license to “ public use”.

What you will need:
A willingness to serve the public, and serve along with a great group of fellow Radio Amateurs .
An interest in amateur radio, and or aircraft, both modern and vintage.
And willingness to throw yourself at the mercy of mother-nature, and deal with whatever she can toss out weather wise.

As far as what equipment you’ll need:
*A 2-meter handy talkie (HT), and extra batteries.

**A headset to go along with that handy talkie as air shows are inherently noisy. Preferably one that covers your ears.

*** Please bring any and all clothing that you need to be comfortable in whatever weather condition we are handed on airshow weekend. That means everything from sunscreen to raincoats. And please wear comfortable shoes. You will be doing a lot of walking, depending upon the assignment that you are given.

Although Wings Over Houston is a three day gig, we will take you as you can give yourself to us. If you can’t work both Saturday and Sunday, one of the two days would be great. We also have a schedule on Friday where we will need 15 or so Hams to provide communication for the Wings Over Houston ‘special’ airshow Friday morning, and the Wings Over Houston ‘drive-in’ airshow on Friday afternoon.

Something to note
You will be fed, and you will be given a Wings Over Houston participant ball cap for volunteering. You will also be given (which you have to give back) a Wings Over Houston Communicators vest.
And for those who have not joined us for a Wings Over Houston prior, you will be among approximately 50 to 60,000 people on each day Saturday and Sunday.
Thank you for your consideration as a Wings Over Houston Amateur Radio Communicator.

Just a quick Wings Over Houston update:
Just had the debrief last Saturday.

Attendance for the 2025 show was in the 90,000 range. Considering the Gov-shutdown impact on the final week of ticket-selling…Not bad. No doubt that attendance Would have broken the Thunderbird record, but we tied it!
T-Birds to return this year with Wings Over Houston 2026 falling on the weekend of October 31st-November 1st.
See you there…e-mail me to get placed on the Communicator Roster.

Thanks,
