Phillip Hamilton’s (Bredren Orchids) plants all came in today for Thursday and Saturday! Hope everyone is getting excited!!! See you all on Thursday at 7:30pm for Phillip’s Broughtonia talk! And on Saturday for our HOS Summer workshop on Novelty and Multifloral Phalaenopsis! Woohoo!

hope everyone in Houston is starting to get excited about our August lineup for HOS! Phillip Hamilton of Bredren orchids is our August speaker, and we have the opportunity to hear from him three times!! He will speak to us on Broughtonia at our Thursday night monthly meeting, and give two more exciting talks on Phalaenopsis for our August workshop on Saturday! Make sure you make it to both events!

Summer Workshop! The theme is Not Your Grocery Store Phalaenopsis and our two renowned speakers Phillip Hamilton of Bredren Orchids and David Edgley of AOS will teach you everything you need to know about both standard Multifloral phals and novelty phals! Lunch and breakfast will be provided, Phillip will bring orchids to sell (and everyone that signs up gets a special pre-order discount to order plants before July 29th). We will have auction plants specially brought in from the breeders in Hawaii, Pots, Art, and orchid media for sale! And the pre-party will be hosted by yours truly (Daria) on Friday evening. In Austin this coming Saturday, July 11, a guided tour to see the beautiful Glass Mountain Crested Coralroot (Bletia nitida, formerly known as Hexalectris nitida), a leafless native orchid.

Join us for a guided nature walk to observe the Glass Mountain Crested Coralroot ( Bletia nitida )—a threatened, mycoheterotrophic orchid that obtains nutrients through fungal parasitism rather than photosynthesis.
