Hello orchid friends,
I am excited to announce that our Saturday August 8th Houston Orchid Society workshop is live and ready for registration! The workshop will be an all day event from 8:30am-4:30pm at First Christian Church and school. Our theme will be “Not Your Grocery Store Phalaenopsis.” The workshop will focus on the two main varieties of Phalaenopsis orchids—standard multifloral types and the warm-growing novelty types—and how to grow them in our unique Southern Gulf Coast climate as well as indoors.

Speakers include Phillip Hamilton of Bredren Orchids in Florida; David Edgley, AOS Judging Chair and expert on standard multifloral Phalaenopsis;and local Houston-area growers who will share their own insights into growing these orchids locally.
Breakfast and Lunch on Saturday are included in the registration fee, and food and drink will be provided at the Friday night social with the speakers (at Daria’s home). This is a great value at $65!

Non-HOS members are welcome, so please invite friends and family who love orchids.

Please visit www.HoustonOrchidSociety.org complete details and to register online.

Can’t wait to see you all there,
Daria

Join us on Thursday June 4th at 7:30pm at First Christian Church for an in-person presentation by Ben Oliveros of Orchid Eros, who comes to us all the way from the Big Island, Hawaii! Ben, an expert breeder and grower of Cattleyas, holds a staggering 519 American Orchid Society awards, including 32 First Class Certificates and 23 Certificates of Cultural Merit/Excellence.Clearly, Ben is the expert who can show us how to get our plants awarded. He will focus on tips and techniques for growing and presenting awardable plants.
Ben will bring his amazing Cattleyas to sell! Feel free to shop his website for pre-orders (www.OrchidEros.com). He will ship plants directly to me and save us some of the pricey Hawaii shipping costs. He will also bring plants to sell, likely ones that are not on the website! He plans to ship a box ahead to us so we don’t get last picks on the circuit.
