🎉 Happy Birthday, LeslieAnne!🎶

LeslieAnne has been singing her whole life! After studying musical theatre and education in college, she has spent the last 30 years serving as a cantor, proclaiming the psalms and leading congregations in worship and song throughout the Diocese of Galveston-Houston.

She joined Houston Choral Society in 2016 and has since shared her love of music with HCS on tours to Carnegie Hall, Italy, and Ireland! 💙

Start by reviewing the Competition Guidelines, then complete your Intent to Submit Form by September 1, 2026. From there, we’ll send you everything you need to complete your submission.

📌 September 1 — Intent to Submit + $25 Entry Fee

🏆 December 1 — Winners Notified

🎼 Join Our Third Annual Choral Composition Competition!

The Houston Choral Society is excited to accept submissions for our Third Annual Choral Composition Competition, sponsored by J.W. Pepper Sheet Music.

This year, composers may enter one of two tracks:

🎵 Main Competition (18+)
• Two winners will each receive a $750 prize
• Winning works will receive a world premiere performance by the Houston Choral Society in March 2027

🎵 Junior Track (ages 13-18)
• One student composer will receive a $250 scholarship
• The Top Five finalists will be invited to participate in a virtual master class with a professional composer

Whether you're an established composer or just beginning your compositional journey, we encourage you to submit your work and share your musical voice.

Every composition deserves an equal opportunity.

One of the core values of the Houston Choral Society Choral Composition Competition, sponsored by J.W. Pepper, is fairness. That's why every submission is evaluated through a completely anonymous judging process.

What does that mean?
• All compositions are reviewed anonymously.
• Judges do not know the identity of the composers.
• Composers do not know the identities of the judges during the competition.
• Every piece is evaluated solely on its musical merit.

Whether you're an emerging composer or have years of experience, every submission begins on equal footing. Our goal is a fair, impartial, and unbiased competition where the music speaks for itself.

🎉 Happy Birthday, Melanie Reynolds!

Today we're celebrating Melanie Reynolds, one of our Directors at Large and Patron Manager!

Music has always been an important part of Melanie's life. Surrounded by a family involved in choirs, theater, and bands, she developed a lifelong love of music that continues to inspire her today.

Since joining Houston Choral Society in the fall of 2022, Melanie has become an invaluable member of our organization. As our Patron Manager, she helps support the patrons whose generosity makes our music possible, and her dedication behind the scenes helps our choir thrive. Her experience serving educational and arts organizations, combined with her passion for choral music, makes a lasting impact on our HCS family.
