🎼 Our Third Annual Choral Composition Competition is Now Open!

The Houston Choral Society is excited to announce that submissions are now being accepted for our Third Annual Choral Composition Competition, sponsored by J.W. Pepper Sheet Music.

This year, composers may enter one of two tracks:

🎵 Main Competition (18+)
• Two winners will each receive a $750 prize
• Winning works will receive a world premiere performance by the Houston Choral Society in March 2027

🎵 Junior Track (ages 13-18)
• One student composer will receive a $250 scholarship
• The Top Five finalists will be invited to participate in a virtual master class with a professional composer

Whether you're an established composer or just beginning your compositional journey, we encourage you to submit your work and share your musical voice.

Happy Birthday to our Senior Vice President, Amy Ghanem! 🎉

Since joining the Houston Choral Society in 2017, Amy has been a joyful and dedicated soprano, and her leadership on the Board since 2018 has made a meaningful impact on our organization.

In addition to her role at HCS, Amy works as a manager of procurement for capital projects at a major oil and gas refiner, balancing her professional expertise with her passion for music. She and her husband, who live in Spring, are proud parents of two adult children, Dylan and Hannah—who is also one of our very own Soprano 1 singers! Music and service truly run in the family, as her mother, Lane Coco, also serves HCS as our Grants Manager.

Though she joined choir later in life, Amy has always loved singing, and it brings her so much joy and peace. We are so grateful for the heart, talent, and leadership she shares with HCS, and we hope she has a truly wonderful birthday today! 💙🎶

🎹 Houston Choral Society is Hiring a Pianist! 🎶

The Houston Choral Society is seeking an accomplished pianist who is also skilled in the art of choral accompanying.

Ideal candidates will have:
• Strong open score reading ability
• Comfort working in a fast-paced rehearsal environment
• Versatility across classical styles, with the ability to play in a variety of genres

This season’s repertoire includes works by Brahms, Mozart, Forrest, Rutter, and more.

🗓 Rehearsals: Mondays, 7:00–9:15 PM
📍 Memorial City area (Houston)
📆 Occasional additional rehearsals based on schedule

Happy Birthday to our Vice President of Performance, Audra Klotz! 🎉

Since joining Houston Choral Society in 2016, Audra has been a valued member of our choir family both on stage and behind the scenes. As VP of Performance, she works closely with our singers and Artistic Director, Dr. Kevin Klotz, to help bring each season to life.

A former middle and high school English teacher, devoted wife and mom, avid reader, and proud alto, Audra brings warmth, dedication, and care to everything she does.
