This is our mission in a nutshell! 🙏🏽

To create a better future for individuals impacted by traumatic brain injuries by providing financial support for critical treatment and services throughout their journey to recovery.

Our goal is to empower individuals like Jonathan with hope, encouragement, and access to the resources they need to continue their recovery, regain independence, and rebuild their lives with strength and confidence.

The ‘Kel Strong’ Rehab Scholarship gave Claire the opportunity to rebuild her life after a traumatic brain injury. Claire was the 4th recipient of The ‘Kel Strong’ Rehab Scholarship awarded in May 2021.

Claire was a standout collegiate soccer player before a traumatic brain injury from a catastrophic car accident on August 3, 2016. She defied the odds.

When insurance denied her critical mobility device called the Bioness, which helps one walk again, The ‘Kel Strong’ Rehab Scholarship paid for to receive the bioness making her recovery possible.

The ‘Kel Strong’ Rehab Scholarship gave Jonathan the opportunity to rebuild his life after a traumatic brain injury. Jonathan was the first-ever recipient of The ‘Kel Strong’ Rehab Scholarship, awarded in January 2020.

After sustaining a traumatic brain injury from a tragic car accident on April 26, 2018, Jonathan was at risk of losing access to critical therapy due to insurance limitations.

The scholarship helped Jonathan regain the ability to walk again among many other things. Most importantly, our founder serves as mentor to him and inspired him to make an incredible transformation related to his health, losing 95 pounds through daily walks, a healthy diet, and consistent workouts.

One of Jonathan’s greatest achievements in his recovery in addition to taking control of his health again was returning to driving a few years ago, restoring both his independence and confidence.

We are grateful to be in the position to hold our 6th Annual ‘Kel Strong’ Foundation Tennis Day Charity Event on Saturday, Nov. 21st at The Kinkaid School| Kel’s Hill!

Registration is now open for our special milestone event!

Join us for a fun-filled day of tennis, open to all skill levels, with partners paired based on ability. We’re excited to have support from the Houston Rockets—Clutch, the mascot, and some Clutch City Dancers will be there!

Bring your kids for family-friendly activities, plus a silent auction with signed items from the Rockets and other exciting items. Our founder will be hitting balls with participants as well!

All proceeds benefit the ‘Kel Strong’ Mabatah Foundation, fueling our 2026–2027 ‘Kel Strong’ Rehab Scholarship Program in partnership with TIRR Memorial Hermann and the Memorial Hermann Foundation.

✨Applications for our 2026 ‘Kel Strong’ Rehab Scholarships are now open!

The ‘Kel Strong’ Rehab Scholarship Program provides direct financial support to individuals impacted by traumatic brain injuries (TBI), helping selected recipients access critical therapy services or durable medical equipment needed to support their journey to recovery.

This year, we are excited to announce that we will be awarding a new record of scholarships in a single year. We plan to award 8-10 ‘Kel Strong’ Rehab Scholarships each worth up to $8,000!

Through our partnership with TIRR Memorial Hermann, one of the best rehabilitation hospitals in the country, scholarship recipients receiving therapy support will have access to specialized rehabilitation services as they continue working toward their recovery goals and greater independence.

One of the highlights leading up to our 2nd Annual ‘Kel Strong’ Foundation Gala a couple months ago was the opportunity to share our mission on Great Day Houston!

It was an honor to have our founder talk about his journey—from surviving a severe traumatic brain injury to founding the ‘Kel Strong’ Mabatah Foundation—and our mission to provide rehabilitation scholarships for individuals recovering from traumatic brain injuries.

Special thanks to our class of 23’ Rehab Scholarship Recipient, Jorge, for sharing his story, and to our chairwoman of our gala committee, Kristi Hubbard, for joining our founder on the segment and doing a great job!

It’s been a few weeks since our unforgettable 2nd Annual ‘Kel Strong’ Foundation Gala and we are still grateful for everyone that supported and helped this be our most successful and impact gala yet, raising over $133,000 to help us continue to achieve our mission of creating a better future for individuals impacted by traumatic brain injuries by providing financial support for treatment and services on their journey to recovery!

To every donor, supporter, sponsor, attendee, gala committee member, THANK YOU!! We couldn’t have achieved what we did without each and every one of you!!

The ‘Kel Strong’ Foundation is just getting started. There is still so much work to be done to help improve others that have been negatively impacted by events that have changed their lives.
