Shooter - Sandi Nail
Sandi began shooting at her husband Ken’s encouragement and quickly discovered a passion for the sport. Sandi started out shooting s***t and trap before the discipline of sporting clays existed. Sandi was the first National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA) and the United States Sporting Clays Association (USSCA) Nationals Lady Champion in 1989.
Sandi’s shooting career started over 40 years ago. As a founding member of Lady Clay Shooters, Inc. and the Lady Charity Event in the late 1980s, she encouraged and mentored many women shooters and helped grow the sport of sporting clays.
Sandi served on the Lady Charity Event for the first few years until the event grew into what became the Women’s Shooting Sports Foundation in 1993. The Ladies Charity Classic, founded in Houston, Texas in 1988 as its inaugural year, saw Sandi finish Runner-up. At the second annual Ladies Charity Classic event in 1989, Sandi was High Overall. To this day, Ladies Charity Classic events continue in Houston, where Sandi Nail can still be found participating and supporting the women who run the events.
Sandi also worked for Champion Lake Gun Club, one of the first commercial sporting clays clubs in the country. She continued to support and promote the growth of sporting clays while shooting events and consistently leading the ladies’ category.
Before any formal sporting clays associations existed, Sandi was competing in and winning sporting clays charity events. She was a force to be reckoned with, always at the top of the leaderboards for the ladies’ category, especially in Texas.
In the mid-1990’s, Sandi stepped away from shooting to raise her son, “Spike”, and support his activities. Once Spike was grown and on his own, Sandi returned to shooting in the mid-2000’s. Since her return, Sandi has won numerous trophies and awards and made the Krieghoff All-American team nine times (2006, 2007, 2009 - 2015), the NSCA 12-ga. All-American team in 2014, the Briley 20-ga. team in 2013, and the Briley 28-ga. team four times (2013-2016).
Sandi currently lives in Huntsville with her husband, Ken. Their family includes three sons, ten grandchildren and most recently, their first great-grandchild.
