On November 6, 2025, SCOTUS issued an order lifting the temporary order that had allowed trans, non-binary, and intersex people to select the gender/sex (including an “X” gender/sex marker) that they wanted on their passport. Here is what that means for trans, non-binary and intersex people looking to get a new or updated US passport now. This information is not legal advice and this situation is developing.

Just about two weeks ago we asked for your support to help trans, non-binary and intersex people with funds for passports so they could utilize a time-sensitive opportunity to get a passport with their correct gender on it. About a week ago we collaborated with and to present information about this court order and how to get a passport now, as well as take passport photos and provide the necessary forms for passport applications. Over 75 people who attended asked for financial help to get their passports. We didn’t think we could fund this many in just 1 week, but thanks to your sharing, donations, and a generous contribution from - WE DID IT! Over $10,000 was disbursed to over 75 deserving trans, non-binary and intersex Texans in a very short timeframe. These individuals are now able to afford at least an accurate passport card and expedited fees. THANK YOU for furthering TLACT’s mission and helping Texans be legally them!

On Saturday, July 12, TLACT, , and hosted an information session to educate and mobilize trans, non-binary, and intersex people about their rights to obtain accurate passports under a recent court ruling. On just a few days notice, the virtual and in-person hybrid event had over 130 registrants from across the state of Texas. Over 90 of those people indicated that they need financial help to afford a passport. This relief is TIME SENSITIVE. For many, if they do not apply or correct their current passport now, they will not be able to have an ID document that reflects who they are for the foreseeable future. We need to raise approximately $20,000 to be able to fund these 90+ individual requests of $275 or less. We are only 19% there so far. This free info session will cover the latest legal updates for U.S. passports - which can now have the gender/sex you want on it - including an “X.” This gender/sex does not have to match the one on your ID/driver’s license or birth certificate and no special medical documentation is required. This legal relief is likely temporary so getting a new or updated passport with the gender you want listed on it now, may be your only opportunity to do so in the near future.

We look forward to explaining how to get a new or updated passport with the gender/sex you want listed on it and answering your questions. We may also be able to provide financial help for you to get your new or updated passport if you attend this info session.
