Today we want to wish a very Happy Birthday to the driving force behind Destination Rescue, Stephanie Maria ❤️

In true Stephanie fashion, she isn't spending her birthday with margarita's by the pool. Instead, she's at NVC Nederland sitting beside a puppy she saved just a few days ago.

Blitz is an 8 month old Great Pyrenees puppy who was abandoned and left to suffer with a severely broken leg for weeks. Today, we received the heartbreaking news that his leg cannot be saved and will need to be amputated. The injury is over a month old, and the damage is simply too extensive.

If you know Stephanie, you know this is exactly where her passion has always been. Not with the easy cases. Not with the dogs that come with pledges and fundraising support already in place. Her focus has always been on the forgotten ones the street dogs, the abandoned dogs, the dogs left behind when no one else is willing to step up.

Blitz came to us with nothing. No pledges. No safety net. Just a desperate need for help.

So for Stephanie's birthday, we're asking for something she would love more than any gift: help for Blitz.

While he will lose his leg today, he will also lose the pain he's been living with for far too long. Once he recovers, Blitz will have the chance to run, play, and enjoy the happy, carefree life every puppy deserves.

Stephanie saw his worth when nobody else did. Just like she always has. Just like she always will.

🏹🏹 Adopt Aero 🏹🏹

Like many Heelers, Aero is smart, active, loyal, and thrives when he has structure and routine. He’s come a long way and now walks well on a leash, rides great in the car, and would make an amazing adventure buddy. Whether it’s a walk, a road trip, or just hanging out in the yard, Aero is happy to be part of the action or to entertain himself with toys and solo play. He does have strong herding instincts and can be mouthy so for that reason we think a family with older kids or no kids is ideal for him. He does great with the other dog in his foster home and would love a friendly furry sibling or at least opportunities to socialize with other dogs. No cats please.

One of Aero’s most endearing quirks? He absolutely loves music. His foster brother starts playing guitar, and he’ll sit quietly and listen like your biggest fan. Music even helps calm him, making it a sweet way to connect with him.

Aero has completed heartworm treatment and is available to transport to his forever home. He is estimated to be 2yrs old and weighs 45lbs. Breed experience or knowledge required.

When we went to BARC this weekend to pick up Dolly, we were scrolling through the shelter website trying to decide which dog we wanted to temperament test her with when one intake photo stopped us in our tracks.

Libby (A2073836).

Her picture absolutely broke us. This poor girl looked like she had been through hell. Either heavily pregnant or recently done nursing puppies, covered in skin issues, painfully thin, and in terrible shape… yet somehow she was still smiling.

In that moment, we knew. We were taking Libby out. And that’s exactly what we did.

From the second we met her, we were completely enamored. Libby is unbelievably calm, gentle, and loving. Despite everything life has clearly put her through, she leaned right into us for affection like she had known us forever. No bitterness. No fear. Just love.

While spending time with her, we noticed she had a very noticeable limp. Honestly, it crushed us. We just committed to another orthopedic case with Mojo, and financially, like most rescues, we are stretched incredibly thin. The thought of another possible surgery felt overwhelming.

But we couldn’t stop thinking about her.

So we reached out to our friends at CUDDLYand asked the scary question… did they think we could do this again? Could they help us raise funds for another potential orthopedic case?

And without hesitation, they said yes. 🥹

Because of their support, Libby gets a chance. A real chance. The sweetest, most deserving girl finally gets to know safety, comfort, and love.

And somehow, the universe kept lining things up for her because one of our favorite fosters stepped up to take her in. Not only does she have extensive shepherd experience, but she’s also experienced with orthopedic recovery.

Libby hit the jackpot.

Susanna is safe with us!! ❤️

We are beyond grateful that everything came together for Susanna today. Rescue has been especially tough lately. Adoptions have slowed way down, and many of the incredible people who repeatedly step up to foster are finally taking some well earned time for summer plans or a much needed break.

But thankfully, we knew the perfect foster for Susanna and the moment she met her foster’s dog, they became instant best friends. It was clear she was exactly where she was meant to be.

Yesterday, 31 dogs were euthanized at the shelter where Susanna was waiting. That reality is heartbreaking, and we wish we could save them all. But we also remind ourselves that every single life saved matters, and today Susanna got that chance.

We promise this sweet girl will receive the very best care, lots of cuddles, and that we will find her the incredible forever home she deserves.

Huge thank you to Mike for the freedom ride, Rebecca for fostering, and the amazing CUDDLY team and donors who helped make her rescue possible. Susanna is one very lucky girl. ❤️

Meet Susanna 💕 the world’s wiggliest sweetheart.

One of our volunteers met her at the shelter last week and instantly fell in love. Even while battling an upper respiratory infection, Susanna couldn’t stop wiggling and wagging her whole body for attention. Plus throwing up “paw” get outta here.

Now Susanna has landed on the euthanasia list for 5/20, and we’re urgently trying to save her life.
