✨ AUGUST, YOU WERE LIT ✨

Some months feel like a blur, and August was exactly that. It feels like we blinked and it was over and when we pulled the adoption report, we were shocked.

It has been painfully slow getting applications, but thankfully, within those sparse numbers, some truly amazing families have come forward for our Texas babies. ❤️

Behind every name is a story. A dog who waited on the streets, or faced euthanasia with certain death lingering over them. But then literally overnight they were safe because someone said yes to fostering. Someone gave them a chance.

And now, they all have amazing forever homes. Families who gained a best friend. 🏡💕

August, thank you for giving us 21 more reasons to believe in happy endings and to keep going. Welcome home, August babies 🐶❤️

And to the people who helped get these 21 amazing dogs to the other side of rescue thank you. You are the reason these stories could be rewritten.

*** Fun facts ***
Dogs adopted this month ranged from 9 weeks old to 8 years old. The smallest was 11lbs and the biggest was 102lbs. 15 of these dogs were facing Euthanasia at a shelter, 4 were strays, and 2 were rehoming situations.

Adopt Ace 🐾🐻‍❄️

Ace's story started like so many others in Houston. He was found wandering the streets alone. Thankfully, a kind family couldn't bear (see what we did there? 😉) to leave him behind and brought him to safety. Now Ace is thriving in a loving foster home while he waits for the one thing he's still missing: his forever family.

Ace is everything you could want in a companion. He's incredibly sweet and has never met a stranger. He's great with other dogs and loves having friends to play with in his foster home.

Essentially, this handsome fella is the total package. And in the morning, he'll even sing you the beautiful song of his (husky) people. 😂 How lucky could one family be?!

He's potty trained, kennel trained, and walks nicely on a leash without pulling. Around the house, you'll often find him proudly carrying one of his favorite toys from room to room or rolling over, belly up, hoping for some pets. He also happens to be a big fan of treats, which will make continued training a breeze. He's a smart, cuddly bear cub... what else could you want?!?!

Ace's ideal home is one where he'll be included in the fun. He'd love a family that has time for cuddles, adventures, and making memories together. The good news is that he's such an easygoing, well mannered good boy that he'll fit into a variety of homes. We're just looking for the one that's the perfect match for him.

Ace is estimated to be 1–2 years old and weighs a healthy 75 lbs. He is currently being fostered in Houston, Texas, but he's available for adoption throughout the country.

Today we got together to celebrate. 🥂🐾

After almost TWO YEARS in our care, Ollie is officially adopted. 😭

Ollie is quite literally the very best boy. He was saved from euthanasia, has been through the absolute ringer, and somehow came out the other side still being the sweetest, happiest, most lovable dude. The “golden child” if you will.

So many people have been part of his story and they all showed up to celebrate him and send him off into his forever. And while today was about Ollie, it was also one of those moments that reminded us just how lucky Destination Rescue is to have the people we do.

Thank you to everyone who came out today and to everyone who has loved and supported Ollie over the last two years. We are tiny but we have a bad ass crew and it’s days like today that help us remember that.

We cannot WAIT for the forever updates.

Shayla is safe with us 💜

We took her straight to the vet, and thankfully, while she feels incredibly crummy with a fever and some pretty severe congestion, her lungs sound good.

She’s now on a stronger antibiotic and a few other meds to hopefully get her feeling better ASAP.

Her foster momma has already implemented the official get-well-soon-from-a-URI protocol.

For now, she’s cozy in her very own donut bed with plenty of time to decompress, sleep, and let her body recover.

HUGE thank you to Lauren, who dropped everything to pick her up and drive her all over town today, and to Renee, who said yes to fostering.

And of course, thank you SO much to everyone who pledged, reached out to help, and donated to her CUDDLY campaign. You guys are the reason we were able to say yes to Shayla and get her the care she needed today.

She’s safe. She’s cozy. And now we get to focus on getting her healthy.

‼️ URGENT TRANSPORT + PLEDGE REQUEST ‼️

Shayla is on the euthanasia list tomorrow, 8/25. 💔

She has a worsening URI and was found lying on her side with thick nasal discharge. She is very sick, and she needs more care than the shelter can provide.

If Shayla makes it through the night, we want to give her a fighting chance.

We desperately need transport tomorrow from BARC in Houston to NVC Nederland (1.5 hours from shelter), where she can be hospitalized and receive the care she needs.

We also need pledges toward her hospitalization. Emergency hospitalization is never cheap, and we don’t know yet what her final bill will look like but we know we want to try.

It’s the strangest thing about rescue: people rarely care about street dogs.

A dog lands on the euthanasia list and people rally. They pledge. They donate. They share. And THANK GOD they do, because those dogs desperately need it.

But a dog suffering on the street? Crickets.

Here’s the part people don’t always realize we cannot save dogs without money. We wish we could, but that’s just not how rescue works.

Every single dog we take in costs hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars. Even a perfectly healthy, smaller dog costs us around $500 just for the basics: spay/neuter, vaccines, heartworm testing, prevention and food.

Our adoption fee is ~$300 once you remove the portion that goes toward transport.

You see the problem, right?

One of our fosters found this guy lying in her front yard. He was so exhausted he didn’t even try to get up when she approached him.

We’ve posted him everywhere. We’ve searched for his family. He isn’t microchipped.

No one is coming for Charley.

And he is SO sweet. He loves dogs. He loves kids. He deserves the same chance as every dog we pull from the euthanasia list.

But to help Charley, we need help.

He needs to be fully vetted. He desperately needs to be groomed. And he needs surgery to repair his cherry eye. We’re looking at a minimum of $700, and realistically, probably more because chances are he has heartworm disease as well.

Dogs on the street are dying too. It’s just usually a much slower, more painful death.

Please help us help Charley. Even $5 adds up.

Willa was adopted from the shelter as a teeny tiny baby in 2024 (peep her adorable puppy photo).

Fast forward two years and somehow she found herself right back at the same shelter on the euthanasia list.

She got lucky and scored a 24 hour extension, but then yesterday her 1pm deadline passed and it became clear no one was coming for her.

But Willa got lucky...really, really lucky.

One of the shelter employees had been watching her and remembered her from when she was there as a tiny baby TWO YEARS AGO. She reached out to us and asked if she could foster her if we would save her life.

Ummm…YES.

While we know a Dane mix is a pretty shocking tag for us...mostly because she is not a cattle dog 🤣 she needed somewhere to go, she had a great foster willing to give her that somewhere, and she sure as hell didn’t deserve to die.

So yesterday, Willa walked out of that shelter for the third and FINAL time.

✨ Adopt Inde ✨

Inde is one of Liberty’s six puppies who, just a few weeks ago, were sitting on the euthanasia list at our local shelter. Somehow, this little family received an unprecedented six euthanasia list extensions, and we are so beyond thankful they’re all still here.

Today, they’re happy, healthy, thriving little chunky babies. They turn 8 weeks old this week and are ready to fly the coop! 4 of the 6 are already adopted and have their transport booked to meet their forever families!

Inde is absolutely adorable, friendly, playful, and basically everything puppy dreams are made of.

He is looking for an active family ready for all the fun and work that comes with raising a puppy. His mom, Liberty, is a 45lb cattle dog mix and your guess for Dad is as good as ours.

His forever family should be committed to him for life, including training, plenty of activity, lots of love, and obviously an unreasonable amount of puppy treats.

Meet the 6 newest members of the Destination Rescue crew:

🐶 CESAR - 4 months old | Great Pyrenees
Cesar is one happy boy whose favorite activity is apparently playing in mud pits with his Great Pyrenees foster friends. Because why be clean when you can be fabulously filthy?

🦖 RUSSEL - 10 months old | Cattle Dog
He's got that classic cattle dog energy and is definitely cattle-dog clingy. Russel is perfect chaos in the best possible way exactly as you'd expect from a cattle dog.

🌭 LIZY - 1 year old | Dachshund Mix
Lizy was saved from the euthanasia list and is settling into her foster home. She's warming up, enjoys belly rubs, and is not a fan of being held. Which is fair - she may have a teeny body, but she's got a BIG personality and we are here for it.

💦 GIBSON - 4 years old | GSD Mix
Another pup saved from the euthanasia list! Gibson is a water-loving, fetch-loving, all-around good boy with the cutest ears this side of the Mississippi.

🐾 FRECKLES - 6 months old | Cattle Dog Mix
Freckles was saved from an overcrowded shelter outside of Houston. He's already proving what a good boy he is and he's got all the potential to become the BEST boy.

🛋️ MARTY - 6 years old | Anatolian Shepherd
Saved from the euthanasia list, Marty is the sweetest older gentleman. He enjoys snacks, snoozes, and has officially claimed the couch as his own. And heck that's alright by us cuz he deserves it.

Every one of these dogs has a story that could have ended very differently. Instead, they're safe in homes, getting lot's of lovies while we work on finding them their perfect forever homes.
