In honor of the memory of William “Bill” Bradburn Manson, we thank Mr. Langston for his donation to YIAA.
Bill passed away May 1, 2020, with his wife and daughter holding his hand. He battled a glioblastoma brain tumor for 15 months.
Bill was born on August 18th, 1968 in New Orleans, Louisiana to William Sr. and Barbara Manson.
He began working for Suncoast Post Tension in 1996 and ended his career as Director of Operations in Houston. He developed a machine for work that improved the post tension process. The first machine was installed at the Houston plant in January 2016. Six more machines followed and were installed at other Suncoast plants in San Antonio, Austin, Dallas and Phoenix. With each new machine, modifications were made to make it more efficient and add features. Bill knew these machines inside and out, and he would have the solution when various plants called with problems. There was often some cussing involved too. Each of the machines now bear a plaque with ‘MANSON and the number for that particular machine, the location and the installation date’. The higher ups at Suncoast want to make sure Bill’s legacy lives on.
Bill was an intelligent man who could fix just about anything. He was also creative, a problem solver, and someone who thought much of efficiency…. Always being the problem solver, Bill sketched out his last invention on March 28, with the assistance of his daughter, Jordan, a mechanical engineering student. It involved a w***h and particular attention was paid to its size so that it would fit through doorways inside the house. Plans and drawings were sent to the Suncoast machine shop. After a few phone calls from Jaime and Kyle, ‘The Bill Uprighter’ was delivered to the house on March 31. Bill developed it in case he fell and we couldn’t get him up. Honestly there was one instance when it could have been used and Bill was hollering, “Get the Bill Uprighter”, but we opted for the lift provided by hospice.”
“Tina and Jordan will plan a memorial service and gathering to celebrate Bill’s life at a future date, when the world gets back to normal. Bill requested that charitable contributions be made to an animal shelter organization, American Brain Tumor Association (abta.org), or a charity of your choice.”
