OneTribe empowers local people in divided societies to build God-centered peace from grassroots-up. These were indeed valuable first steps.

Our story begins in South Sudan – arcs outward to its border regions then stretches beyond into other African nations impacted by civil war and violence. When South Sudan became a nation in July 2011, it seemed a time to heal and rebuild this country torn by decades of war and division. Empowering local people to lift themselves out of poverty seemed to mean working with leaders to address critica

l matters such as access to clean water, female health and economic opportunity. But when South Sudan returned to war in December 2013, it became clear to us that although these steps were invaluable and necessary, a God-centered peace was essential to the survival of this country. And such a peace needed to be etched out from within, highly accessible, adaptive and easy to put into practice. OneTribe offers local people in divided societies a road map from violent conflict toward a future of peace and opportunity. Sustainable, thriving societies have at their foundation an understanding of, and commitment to, peace. And when divided societies begin grasping and practicing peace principles, relationships, communities and nations are transformed.

Today we’re writing with news of vast and rapid expansion! Along with this, we’re also sharing a unique opportunity to respond with us to the critical need of equipping new leaders, pastors, and networks in some of the most distant, war-torn, and unreached places on Earth. To this, we have set a goal of raising $60,000 by June 15th. We fully believe – and continue seeing – when local people begin grasping and practicing a Christ-centered peace, their lives are changed. So often, too, are their relationships and communities.

Whether in the vast refugee resettlement camps of northern Uganda or remote regions in South Sudan and Sudan, wherever OneTribe envoys, community leaders and pastors have journeyed, they are witnessing God move in astonishing ways. As these bring the peace of Jesus through both OneTribe peace episodes and skills training leading to greater opportunities, they bear witness of healing and unity replacing divisions. They tell of local rejoicing and renewed dignity that comes with being able to provide for themselves and their families.

This verse – it’s been so much of our story throughout 2024. How we thank God for this—and thank you for joining us in the work of carrying and communicating the peace of Christ into divided communities. With you beside us this year, we have witnessed hundreds yearning for peace find their rest in coming to Jesus Christ for the first time. We have served thousands – many newly fleeing war and violent conflict – with messages of God-centered peace and skills that bring renewed dignity and opportunities.

We are rejoicing in all of this, and in how this verse is characterizing the lives of these being reached. Just as much, it is at work in us.

This Thanksgiving we are indeed filled to overflowing with gratitude. We are so thankful for how the Good News of Jesus is transforming lives and bringing peace to brokenness. We are thankful receiving Christ as Savior is but a starting point – thereafter, we walk with Him as Lord always and day by day! In time, we grow roots, tethered strong to Him – and He works and settles His ways deep into ours. This rescuing work in us – whether in remote East and Central Africa or here – becomes our anthem of praise. It becomes the story we just can’t stop sharing because the gospel is always Good News…the very best news wherever it reaches, touches, transforms a life.
