Now Accepting Applications for the Board of Directors

The Arab American Cultural and Community Center (ACC) is seeking committed and qualified individuals to serve on its Board of Directors for the upcoming 2027–2029 term.

Board members serve a two-year volunteer term. The Board of Directors meets on the second Tuesday of each month and provides leadership, governance, and oversight in support of ACC’s mission, programs, and service to the Greater Houston community. In addition to attending Board meetings, Board members are expected to actively serve on one or more ACC committees.

We are seeking candidates who are committed to ACC’s mission and can bring relevant experience, leadership, diverse perspectives, and skills to support effective governance and strengthen ACC’s impact in the community.
Application Requirements
Interested candidates should submit:
- A current résumé
- A one-page letter of intent describing their interest in serving on the ACC Board of Directors, any relevant nonprofit, community, leadership, or board experience, if applicable, and the skills, experience, perspectives, or other contributions they believe they can bring to ACC
- Names and contact information for two professional or community references who may be contacted regarding their candidacy

About the Arabic School

Established in 2001 at the Arab American Cultural & Community Center (ACC), the Dr. Amer Sabbagh ACC Arabic School has been inspiring students to learn, appreciate, and connect with the Arabic language and culture for 25 years.
With experienced teachers who have taught Arabic in the United States and abroad, our Arabic School combines a strong, structured curriculum with engaging and interactive learning experiences.
Our mission is to help preserve and promote the Arabic language for future generations.
Our philosophy is rooted in the belief that language is more than words: it is a connection to culture, history, and identity.
Our motto, لغتي هويتي — My Language, My Identity, reflects our commitment to helping students build their Arabic skills while discovering the richness of Arabic culture.

Some new Arab immigrant families in our community are experiencing food insecurity after the big beautiful bill took away their SNAP/food stamp benefits.

To bring attention to this ACC and NAAMA are organizing a large food drive to help our community.

One of our anonymous donors has pledged $10,000 if we can raise $5,000. That is a 2:1 donation match.

This means your $5 become $15 and your $20 become $60. Please consider donating even the cost of a cup of coffee and sharing with your friends. Your impact will directly help feed local Arab families using local Arab businesses in Houston.

Drawing from his leadership and coaching experience and his book, Become Who You Are Meant to Be: How to Let Life Take You There, Dr. Hatem will share thoughtful reflections on purpose, resilience, fulfillment, and achieving success that is both meaningful and personally aligned.

About Dr. Hatem Goucha
Dr. Hatem Goucha is an executive coach and former senior project leader with 26 years of experience at Bechtel, where he led major engineering and construction projects in the U.S. and internationally. He holds a PhD in Project Management from The University of Texas at Austin and a Master’s degree from UC Berkeley.
A former Houston resident, Dr. Hatem also served on the ACC Board of Directors. He now lives in Abu Dhabi, where he coaches senior leaders, founders, and professionals.

A book signing will follow the talk, with purchase of the book optional.
