January is recognized as National Human Trafficking Awareness Month. January 11 is known as National Human Trafficking Awareness Day, with a presidential proclamation dated back to 2010.
Today, some of our volunteers shared an amazing training they attended hosted by survivor leader Rachel D. Fischer and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. The Department of Justice shared a report stating that 60% of Latina women and 42% of Latino men were labor trafficked.
The Polaris Project in 2017 released a seminal report stating that 76 percent of trafficked victims were immigrants. Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras were the countries with the highest exploitation between 2015-2018.
Trafficking occurs in our community on a daily basis and looks differently. Below are a few examples of Trafficking:
Forced Labor
S*x Trafficking
Human Trafficking
Moving forward, Latinx Leaders will continue to share resources and bring awareness to our community. Through Partnership, Prevention, Protection, Prosecution, and Policy.
