Past performance matters because governance decisions have consequences.

School boards make decisions about priorities, accountability, resources, policies, and district leadership—and those decisions can shape the conditions in which students learn and succeed.

As communities consider school board leadership, looking at the board’s record can help answer important questions: What were the student outcomes? What improved? What did not? How did the board respond when progress fell short?

Look at the record. Ask informed questions. Keep conversations about improving students outcomes.

Family Voices: What Are Families Seeing?

Families often notice changes before those changes appear in a report.

What is your child saying about school? Are they receiving effective instruction and the support they need? Do they feel safe, heard, challenged, and encouraged? Are you receiving clear information about their progress?

Family experience is not blame—it is valuable information that can help schools understand what is working and what needs attention.

Ask your child. Listen carefully. Stay informed. Their experience belongs in the conversation.

Before accepting anyone’s message about what schools need, let us ask students what helps them learn, what gets in the way, and whether the support they need is reaching them. Then let us use that information to ask better questions and make informed decisions.

Some people watch the game. Others cheer from the stands. Coaches help develop the strategy, and leaders may sit in the skybox—but voters take the field and call the play through the ballot.

STATE OF EDUCATION: Limited Access to Early Intervention

Waiting for a student to fail can allow a manageable need to become a serious barrier. Early intervention gives schools and families an opportunity to respond before academic frustration, absenteeism, or disciplinary problems increase.

Early support is not labeling. It is responsible action.
