Genetic tests for cancer or other diseases need to be ordered by a treating physician. If you are offered genetic testing at a health fair, through the mail, or over the phone, these are probably not legitimate. Don't accept them. Talk to your doctor if you want to do any genetic tests for medical reasons.

Scammers are impersonating the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and sending phishing fax requests for medical records and documentation, falsely claiming to be part of a Medicare audit. CMS doesn’t initiate audits by requesting medical records. If you get a fax like this, report it to the SMP.
