🌟 GSF Scholar Spotlight: Dr. LaTashia Kiel, DNP, FNP-C, APRN, CEN 🌟

This week, we're thrilled to celebrate Dr. LaTashia Kiel, whose career beautifully bridges acute care, prevention, and community impact.

LaTashia began her career in emergency nursing before advancing to become a Family Nurse Practitioner specializing in cardiometabolic health, hypertension, weight management, and preventive wellness. Today, she is the proud founder of Heart & Soul Health, where she offers cardiometabolic consultations, health coaching, and preventive care designed to address the root causes of chronic disease. Beyond clinical practice, she leads community health education through her church's Health Awareness Ministry and partners with organizations to expand access to prevention-focused wellness programming. πŸŽ‰

In her own words: "More than financial assistance, the scholarship served as encouragement and affirmation that others believed in my potential and future in healthcare. That support helped fuel my confidence and reminded me that my purpose in nursing extended beyond the classroom."

Her advice to future nursing students: "Never lose sight of why you started. Nursing is challenging, and there will be seasons that test your endurance, confidence, and resilience, but your purpose will sustain you when motivation fades... Do not limit your vision for what nursing can become."

Congratulations, Dr. Kiel! We're so proud to have supported your academic nursing journey! πŸ’™

🌟 GSF Scholar Spotlight: Candice J. Battle, BSN, RN 🌟

This week, we're proud to highlight Candice J. Battle, a nurse whose 16-year career reflects curiosity, growth, and a deep commitment to her calling.

Candice has built an impressive foundation across ICU, outpatient PACU, and clinical informatics, but in recent years she found her true passion in psychiatric nursing. She is currently in her second year of the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Doctor of Nursing Practice program at UTHealth Cizik School of Nursing, with plans to graduate in May 2028! πŸŽ‰ We're honored that she received our scholarship twice β€” once during her ADN at Houston Community College Coleman College for Health Sciences, and again while pursuing her RN to BSN at UTHealth Cizik School of Nursing.

In her own words: "At both points in my academic journey, the scholarship provided meaningful support that allowed me to remain focused on my education and continue progressing toward my goals."

Her advice to future nursing students: "Define your own path. Nursing is a diverse and evolving profession, and success does not look the same for everyone... Stay grounded in your own interests and values. By doing so, you can build a career that is both fulfilling and uniquely your own."

Thank you, Candice, for sharing your journey with us. We can't wait to see all you accomplish! πŸ’™

🌟 GSF Scholar Spotlight: Adeila Armstrong, MSN, RN, NPD-BC, CNL 🌟

This week, we're honored to highlight Adeila Armstrong, whose 19-year nursing career is a beautiful example of growth, dedication, and lifelong learning.

Adeila has spent a decade at the bedside and nine years in education, with most of her career rooted in the emergency department β€” first as a bedside nurse, then as a nurse residency mentor, and now as a Nurse Professional Development Educator. In her current role, she serves as an education liaison between Corporate, Division, and Facility, building meaningful programming for Emergency Services RNs. This year, she added another milestone to her journey by presenting at the 2026 Aspire Conference! πŸŽ‰

In her own words: "GSF Scholarships helped me tremendously during my time in nursing school. I had to work and attend school, so any assistance that was provided eased the burden. I was very blessed to be a recipient and plan to continue to give back to this foundation."

Her advice to future nursing students: "Never give up. No matter how hard it looks, keep going. Nursing is a profession where you can reinvent yourself constantly. After you get experience in one area, you can change to another until you find your place. You don't have to end where you started. Believe you can make it to the finish line."

Thank you, Adeila, for your dedication to the next generation of nurses and for continuing to give back! πŸ’™

This National Nurses Week, we say thank you.

To the nurses at the bedside β€” for your steady hands, your compassion, and the care you bring to every shift.

To the aspiring nurses still in school β€” for choosing this calling, and for the courage it takes to pursue it.

To the nurse faculty β€” for shaping the next generation, often at great personal sacrifice. The future of healthcare runs through your classrooms.

To the nurse scientists β€” for asking the questions that move medicine forward, and for the quiet rigor behind every breakthrough.

To the nurse leaders β€” for advocating for your teams, your patients, and the profession itself.

You are the backbone of healthcare.

You are why we do what we do.

Thank you. πŸ’™

🌟 GSF Scholar Spotlight: Amir Kamel, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, MPH 🌟

This week, we're proud to celebrate Dr. Amir Kamel, whose nursing journey is a powerful reminder of what's possible with dedication and support. After earning his BSN, Amir didn't stop there. He went on to complete his Master's as a Family Nurse Practitioner and his Doctorate of Nursing Practice, all while staying committed to wellness-based, evidence-based care. Today, we're thrilled to share that Amir has recently opened his very own primary care and wellness clinic in El Paso, Texas β€” a dream years in the making!

In his own words: "Being a recipient of multiple scholarships was truly life-changing. It allowed me to focus more on my education and clinical training, rather than working excessive hours just to afford school. That support gave me the freedom to fully invest in becoming the provider I am today."

His advice to future nursing students: "Keep moving forward, stay disciplined, and don't limit your potential. Set your goals high and go after them. Nursing needs strong, driven individuals who will continue to elevate and inspire the next generation."

Congratulations, Dr. Kamel! We're so proud to have played a small part in your incredible journey! πŸ’™

✨ We're officially only two weeks away from our 38th Annual Pearl Ball! ✨

On Thursday, May 7th, attendees will come together to enjoy an incredible evening featuring an exciting raffle, thoughtful remarks from former scholarship recipients and other guests, a dynamic dueling-pianos performance, dinner, and dancing, all in support our nursing scholarship programs.

We're thrilled to have former scholarship recipients, Harriet and Tom Omondi, joining us as the featured guest speakers.

Tom is a Nurse Attorney and founder of The Law Offices of Omondi & Associates, PLLC, representing clients in medical malpractice and personal injury. His career spans more than a decade in healthcare, including service as Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Executive Officer, before earning his Juris Doctor and transitioning to legal practice.

Harriet is a Family Nurse Practitioner who holds a PhD in Nursing, dedicated to advancing patient care and the profession through her clinical expertise and academic achievement.

In Tom and Harriet, we see the full promise of what a scholarship can unlock β€” two remarkable careers, built on dedication, education, and service to others.

If you haven't yet reserved your table or tickets, sponsorships are still available until April 30th! Please email us at [email protected] or visit our website for more information.

Together, we can help nurses and change lives. πŸ’™
