This year’s 22nd Annual Luncheon is on November 6th at The Royal Sonesta Houston Galleria, and there’s only one week left to be recognized as a sponsor in our event materials. Secure your table or sponsorship by October 16th to be included.

🌟 GSF Scholar Spotlight: Meagan Mitchell, RN, IBCLC 🌟

This week, we're proud to highlight Meagan Mitchell, whose 13-year nursing career reflects a deep commitment to caring for mothers and babies during some of life's most precious moments.

Meagan has spent the past 13 years as a Labor and Delivery nurse, and in 2025, she expanded her expertise by becoming an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Among her many accomplishments, she was honored with the prestigious DAISY Award, recognizing the extraordinary compassion and skill she brings to her patients. 🎉

In her own words:
"The scholarship was a tremendous aid for nursing school. That money was used to help purchase books that I still reference in my nursing career today."

Her advice to future nursing students:
"Do your best to embrace the challenges ahead. They'll be worth it soon. A career in nursing is truly a blessing."

🌟 GSF Scholar Spotlight: Jessica Kuhlmann, RN, BSN 🌟

This week, we're excited to highlight Jessica Kuhlmann, a new nurse whose journey is just getting started!

Jessica graduated from nursing school in December 2025 and has since begun working night shifts in a Level 2 ER in East Texas. 🎉 She's already putting her calling into action by caring for patients when they need it most.

In her own words:
"This scholarship allowed me to pursue my calling of being a nurse by providing financial support and assistance. I am beyond grateful for this foundation for offering so many scholarships, and I am honored to have been chosen."

Her advice to future nursing students:
"Just keep pushing through! School is long and tiring, but it is so incredibly rewarding in the end. Keep your eyes on the end goal and you will make it!"

✨ "I am truly honored to be here today, and I want to thank my nominator and everyone who works with me in the nursing community to care for our patients."

These are the words of Diane Blair, BS, MSHCA, BSN, RN, OCN, CHPN, MEDSURG-BC, a 2025 Excellence in Nursing Award winner from Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital — and they are a beautiful reminder that nursing is never a solo endeavor. Behind every great nurse is a team, a community, and patients who inspire them to show up every single day.

Recognition like this exists because of the generous support of our community and community partners. Good Samaritan Foundation has been honoring nurses like Diane for over 75 years, and we are grateful for every person and organization that helps make it possible.

🌟 GSF Scholar Spotlight: Emma Montano, BSN, RN 🌟

This week, we’re excited to highlight Emma Montano, whose passion, drive, and heart for service shine through in every part of her nursing journey.

Emma graduated from the University of St. Thomas BSN program and is currently an Oncology ICU RN at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center, where she recently transitioned from the IMU to the ICU. She has received several recognitions from her managers, clinical nurse leaders, doctors, and fellow nurses at MD Anderson, and was honored with the 2026 Emma and Emily Josephine Spirituality in Nursing Award from the Institute of Spirituality and Health. 🎉 Emma is also preparing for her Oncology Nurse Certification, applying to the Air Force National Guard as an RN, and has recently begun her journey to become a Family Nurse Practitioner through Texas Woman’s University — where she’ll earn her Master of Science in Nursing.

In her own words:
“This scholarship allowed me to continue my education through financial hardships... My dreams are made true through God, my family, and scholarships that have aided me to keep going strong. I am forever grateful to your foundation for making my dreams a reality.”

Her advice to future nursing students:
“Never give up and keep pushing forward strong! Nursing is a beautiful and rewarding path through our acts of service and kindness... Believe in yourself, and believe that you have the power to succeed. No experience is a bad experience. Take every mistake or low score as an opportunity for growth and learning.”
