We believe that our programs are great for the community because they promote inclusion and acceptance of people of all abilities. There are three key things we target every season with our athletes- developing skills to increase autonomy; improving self-regulation, communication, and social skills to allow for inclusion in more environments; and building confidence in our athletes. Focus on encou
raging independence through systematically increasing participation in practice activities through shaping and reinforcing target behaviors. Take advantage of opportunities to teach athletes self-regulation through effective coping strategies and functional communication that assist in increasing access to more desired environments. Supporting athletes in focusing on their strengths and communicating their preferences, through reassurance and reinforcement, to build friendships and athleticism while improving quality of life.
