These past days have left us overwhelmed with gratitude. ✨

They played games, shared laughter, and looked these kids in the eyes. They gave their time and their hearts.💝
What moved us most wasn't the presents. It was watching children realize: someone chose to spend their day with me. I matter.

Illuminating the Darkness Ep. 5 | Orphanage Ave Fénix in Pátzcuaro, Mexico

Join us in Pátzcuaro, Mexico, as we visit Orphanage Ave Fénix, one of the poorest orphanages we support. Meet Lina, the woman who has dedicated her life to these children, and see the reality they live with resilience and hope.

In Episode 5 of Illuminating the Darkness, we travel to Pátzcuaro, Mexico, to visit Orphanage Ave Fénix, where Lina has dedicated her life to giving abandoned and vulnerable children a place to call home.

This orphanage is among the poorest we support, yet it stands as a testament to sacrifice and unconditional love. With limited resources, the children eat meals under tarps that barely protect them from the rain and sleep in overcrowded rooms, but still, they smile, laugh, and cling to hope.

Lina’s open-door heart, welcoming both visitors and children alike, shows us the power of perseverance. While Orphanage Ave Fénix may lack in material wealth, it is rich in love, dedication, and compassion.

Through Illuminating the Darkness, our mission is to uncover the truth about orphanages in Mexico, revealing both the light and the shadows, and to stand with the children who are too often forgotten.

In Episode 4, founder Justin takes us to Morelia, Michoacán, outside the orphanage Irekani. What began with food, clothing, and school support turned into a sobering discovery of what truly happens behind closed doors:

💔 Lies, Loss, and Hope: When Orphanages Shut Their Doors | Illuminating the Darkness Ep. 3

In this episode, Justin revisits the first orphanage he ever helped in Mexico. What he finds is heartbreaking, children lied to, doors closed, and love cut off. Yet the mission continues: to uncover the darkness and find the homes where kids are truly valued.

In Episode 3 of Illuminating the Darkness, we return to the very first orphanage where Justin began his journey of helping kids in Mexico: Morelia Home for Children.

For years, he and his team brought Christmas gifts, meals, outings, and love to 42 children there. But after surviving an attack on the highway, everything changed. The founder closed the doors on Justin and his team—leaving the kids confused, abandoned once again, and even told lies about why the visits stopped.

One young girl called out from a window, asking the question no child should ever have to ask: “Why didn’t you come back?” The truth is painful: the kids were told their helpers had simply chosen to walk away.

But that wasn’t the truth.

This episode pulls back the curtain on how some orphanages in Mexico operate, where administrators exploit children for money, parade them for donations, and keep resources for themselves. It’s a harsh reality: generosity from donors doesn’t always reach the children.

That’s why Voice of the Forgotten refuses to support any orphanage where transparency is hidden, access is denied, and children are treated as tools instead of treasures.

Yet, in the midst of heartbreak, there’s still hope. We continue searching for the orphanages that honor kids, that speak truth, that pour love into their lives, and remind them they are deeply valued, by people and by God.
