For 30 years, the Honorable Sheila Jackson Lee Young Leaders in Government Initiative has created a powerful pathway for young people to lead, serve, advocate, and make an impact.
Through civic education, government exposure, leadership development, career exploration, mentorship, wellness support, media training, and participation in transformative experiences such as the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Annual Legislative Conference, our scholars gain more than access they gain a clearer vision of what is possible.
The footprint of this program can be seen in every scholar who discovered their voice, entered rooms they once only imagined, connected with influential leaders, and returned home prepared to strengthen their community. For three decades, we have helped develop informed, confident, and service-driven young leaders who understand that their voices belong in the rooms where decisions are made.
Now, we are preparing for the next generation.
Applications open September 20, 2026, for scholars ages 16–24.
