Flag Rugby Football
Rugby Football is the second most popularly played team sport in the world. It originated at Rugby School in England and became the father of American Football when Yale University and Harvard University couldn’t play by the gentlemen code of the game. Rugby Football also fathered basketball when Dr. James Naismith in December 1891 at a YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts had to come up with a game like rugby (multi-passing) to play during the snowy months.
Flag Rugby is a game that allows players to engage in a lot of passing and catching as they run for touchdowns (called tries). As such, the game is filled with action and participation for all the players. The flag rugby game played by the Houston Youth Rugby League is actually an official form of flag rugby called Rookie Rugby, which has leagues and clubs around the USA and Canada (see: https://rookierugby.com).
If you are not familiar with Rookie Rugby, but want your child to be in a fun, ultra participatory team sport where skills and friendship are strongly fostered, then sign your child up in the Houston Youth Rugby League (Sign-Up: http://www.houstonrugby.org/youth).
