Glendale Cemetery Houston

Glendale Cemetery Houston Historic Glendale Cemetery on the banks of Buffalo Bayou, Houston, Texas. Glendale Cemetery. Burial place of Texas heroes and pioneers.

Glendale began as private plot of the family of John R. Harris, founder of Harrisburg (now part of Houston). First burial, on July 23, 1839, was of Harris' cousin, Judge John Birdsall, an ex-attorney general of Texas. A cemetery developed without management or legal status. In 1897, local ladies formed Glen Dale Cemetery Company and kept grounds in order for years. After a period of neglect, a gro

up began the restoration in 1952. Glendale Cemetery Association, Inc. now manages the property and provides perpetual care.

Memorial Day 2025 Celebration at Glendale Cemetery. 1-4 pm.

New entrance road.

You can use Buffalo Marine Service on GPS as your destination. This route will require crossing the railroad. If there’s no train, that’s not a problem - use it . Our new road is an immediate right turn when you cross the tracks.
However, if there is a train, here are the train-free directions.
On Broadway continue north past Manchester staying left to go under the underpass.
Go up to the turnaround where you can make a U-turn. Make the U-turn at Cypress. After you make the U-turn, stay right and go all the way up to the railroad ( dead ends)- take a left. You’ll be on our new road. At the intersection, that’ll be Buffalo Marine on the left, but just go across, and you’re on the cemetery road.

I think at the light at Manchester you will be able to see the railroad overpass. If there is a train on it , the intersection at Buffalo Marine will probably be blocked. Use the trainless directions.
😎
Be aware-
-There is no admittance from Magnolia. Fencing on both sides of the tracks and explicit signage are in place. The gated entrance we have been using for several years is barricaded. It’s all about safety.
-the new road is only 10 feet wide in some places. So far, trucks with trailers have been able to use it.
